Amazing!
Yesterday, was a monumental battle, which the Patriots were victorious. This newspaper will tell you all the inside details that you wanted to know about.
The beginning!
Yesterday, October 19, 1781 was a day everyone will remember for the rest of their lives. The Patriots fought the British and were victorious and won the whole war! You are probably wondering how they won. What they did was surround Yorktown, because they knew it was a relatively small city. Also, the French were allied with the Patriots, which meant more men to surround and fight.
Cowardly Cornwallis
General Cornwallis (the General of the British) was in the middle of Yorktown with all his men at the time. There were about 800 British troops, including the Hessians. Half of this battle was fought on sea, while the rest was on land. Then the Patriots started closing in which caused Cornwallis and his troops to move back. Then a tropical storm hit Yorktown, which cause Cornwallis and his troops to move back even more to the point that Cornwallis was crouched down in a corner of a cave.
The Surrender
Eventually, Cornwallis suurendered because of attack, disease, lack of supplies, inclement weather, and failed evacuation. There were about 3500 shots fired every day from the Patriots alone. Cornwallis had to sign 2 copies of the documents that officially state that the Patriots won the war. After this was done, the Patriots had a ceremony and forced the British to play a song.
