Shimek Shout Out
February 1, 2019
Iowa City Home School Assistance Program (CHSAP) Updates:
Dear Shimek Families,
As promised, I wanted to provide you updates on the ICHSAP transition as information becomes available to me. To being, it is my understanding that the district is planning to place a sIx-plex prefabricated structure on our grounds. This means that the structure would include six classroom spaces and restroom facilities. Again, this will be moving onto Shimek's grounds over the summer of 2019.
Additionally, in speaking with the current ICHSAP elementary administrator, Ann Langefeld, she shared that this program currently serves between 20 and 30 elementary age students who attend enrichment classes on Mondays and Wednesdays in set blocks of time. She also said that we will be able to schedule things so that Shimek's and ICHSAP's arrivals/dismissals don't interfere with one another. (Similarly, secondary enrichment classes will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays with smaller groups of three to 10 students attending.) From time to time, the program will also have a few families that will stop in to check out materials or visit for conferencing/coaching with supervising ICHSAP teachers. I also learned that once a month there is a ICHSAP PTO meeting during the day - timing is usually set based on board members' schedules and when their children are attending enrichment classes.
Finally, in regard to parking, it sounds as though there will be an additional four or five staff vehicles on a routine basis; one of which is our shared librarian, Linda Johnson. Again, thank you in advance for joining me in welcoming this community as they transition out of their former space. As always, if you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them for you in a timely manner!
All my best, Chris Pisarik
