Dear Ira B. Jones Families:

We had another great week! Thank you for all you're doing as a parent to help your student/s transition back to school. I can tell the students and staff are starting to settle in more and are comfortable with the routines and different procedures.

Speaking of routines and procedures, I need your help. I know mask-wearing is not the most favorite thing we have to do right now, but it's a critical measure we must follow to keep our students and staff healthy and safe. Please talk to your students about wearing and keeping their masks on during the day. Although we give gentle reminders, some students get agitated when asked to put a mask on or pull theirs up to cover their nose and mouth. We don't want to bother you with this during the school day, but we will start calling parents to encourage their students to keep their masks on and pulled up. Again, thank you for your help with this.

It looks like our carpool line has improved! I appreciate everyone following the dismissal procedures and taking note of the reminders. This reminder is a big one: out of courtesy of the parents who have been waiting in line, please do not attempt to make a left-hand turn off Kimberly Ave, especially during afternoon dismissal, and please don't impede traffic on Kimberly Ave. A few neighborhood folks have reached out to me out of frustration because parents are blocking traffic on Kimberly Ave, and they can't safely pass. Use Beaverdam Ave to enter the carline. Thank you for your immediate attention to these reminders.

I encourage you to use our school’s website, our Facebook page, the district’s Back to School Updates Website and follow us on Twitter @Principal_IBJ as sources of information.

As a school leader and a parent, I understand the necessity of healthy communication between families and the school. I welcome your questions, celebrations, or concerns at any time. You can reach me by calling the school (828-350-6700) or via email (
