More Shout Outs!
- Shout Out! to the 24 parents who are a part of the WCS District Parent Advisory Council. They represent our 15 Title I Schools, and we value their input! The parents are selected by principals and meet several times a year to discuss topics such as the Parent Engagement Policy, School Parent Compacts and the District Strategic Plan. Special thanks to the WCS Federal Programs Department and our school principals for fostering parent engagement and also to Jones ES for hosting the meetings. According to the Department of Public Instruction, Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards in order to reinforce and amplify efforts to improve teaching and learning for students struggling to meet state standards. Individual public schools with poverty rates above 40 percent may use Title I funds to operate schoolwide programs.
- Shout Out! to the winners of the Sallie B. Howard Honor Essay Contest announced at the Martin Luther King Jr. Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast. Area middle school students participated in the contest with the theme: “What is your dream on continuing to grow and enhance cultural diversity in the Wilson community?” First place went to seventh-grader Janesha I. of Toisnot MS; second place was Audrey E., eighth-grader at Springfield MS; and third place was Jonathan L., eighth-grader at Springfield MS.
