Favorite Foods Revue & Favorite Foods Revue with Dairy Theme Thursday, July 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Fair Center in Syracuse!
The Favorite Foods Revue (FFR) combines food preparation, menu planning, and table setting skills. 4-H members participating in the FFR need to plan a menu suitable for an indoor or outdoor meal. One food prepared by the 4-H member should be brought to the Revue with the selected table service, centerpiece, menu card, recipe card, and card table/picnic blanket. 4-H members enrolled in any 4-H Foods projects are eligible to participate.
The FFR is divided into three age divisions: 1) Clover Kids; 2) Juniors - those
11 and under as of January 1, 2019, and 3) Seniors - 4-H members 12 and older.
The FFR with Dairy Theme is similar, but the food product has to be made using
dairy, you need a team of two, and you must use technology. See the enclosed flyer
for more info - back side. This contest is for 4-H members 10 and older.
The FFR and the FFR with Dairy Theme will be Thursday, July 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Fair Center in Syracuse. Pre-register by contacting the Extension Office at 402-269-2301. Pre-registration is due Wednesday,
July 10th .
Please note the Junior Division 4-H Life Challenge Contest and the FFR/FFR with Dairy Theme will run simultaneously, so everyone can participate in both contests!
4-H Performing Arts Contest
The rules for the Performing Arts Contest can be found on the flyer in the June TIPS Newsletter.
The registration deadline is July 15. If you need more information, contact the Extension Office or check out the Fair Book on page 10. A thank you to Emily Johnson for sponsoring the Superior Performance plaque!
Junior Division Life Challenge Contest
The Junior Division 4-H Life Challenge Contest will be Thursday, July 11 at the Fair Center in Syracuse. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., with the ribbons and awards presentation scheduled for approximately 8:30 p.m. This contest is for boys and girls 11 and under as of January 1, 2019. Youth will judge four placing classes and take a short quiz.
Both the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion receive $20.00, with the awards sponsored respectively by Valentino’s of Nebraska City and Commercial State Bank of Nebraska City.
Please note both Favorite Foods Revues and the Junior Division Life Challenge Contest will run simultaneously, so everyone can participate in these contests!
Presentation Contest
It’s time to start thinking about your topic for the 4-H Presentation Contest, which is Tuesday, July 9. Youth gain valuable communication skills by participating in the 4-H Presentations Contest. Awards include a plaque for the top 4-H member in the Junior Division and one for the top 4-H member in the Senior Division. Check out page 11 of the Otoe County Fair Book for all the details!

4-H State Dog Show
For this year, the 2019 4-H State Dog Show has many changes to it!This includes how the entry process works, this year the State Dog Show Entry forms, Fees & Vaccination forms will be due to your County Extension office by the end of the day August 9th, 2019. Please have checks for the entry fees made out to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Bedding Fees If you are showing cattle please stop in the Extension Office and pay for your bedding fees for the fair. All beef animals will be charged $10.00/head, except stocker feeders & bucket calves are $5.00/head. There will be no refunds fro animals that do not come to the fair | All Animal Entries Due July 15th by 4:30 p.m. All animal entries for Otoe County Fair are DUE by 4:30 p.m. on July 15th: this includes Beef, Companion Animals, Dogs, Dairy & Meat Goats, Horses, Meat Goats, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep and Swine. These entry sheets will also be used to stall livestock at the Otoe County Fair. | Clover Kid Bucket Calves Important reminder- Bucket Calves must be no more than six months of age and weigh no more than 350 pounds. |

Nebraska 4-H Foundation Flood Relief Fund
The Nebraska 4-H Foundation has created a Flood Relief Fund to support children, youth and families impacted by the recent storms and floods.
There is another fund that may be of interest to your 4-H families and friends. The 4-H’ers Helping 4-H’ers Fund offers a giving opportunity to 4-H clubs and councils as well as individuals and businesses to support 4-H youth and families.
