2019 Happy New Year Edition
Semester One Exams
First semester exams are scheduled from Tuesday, January 22 to Friday, January 25, 2019. The exams will be 104 minutes in length and will include material from both the first and second quarters. High school students are required to report for their exams only and will be dismissed after their exams. Students must report to advisory between exam periods if they have multiple exams that day. Transportation will be provided to school in the morning and from school at 2:05 p.m. Students who do not have transportation may stay in school after the exam period and study in the library. High school students who arrive to school on the morning bus should report to their exam or to the library if they do not have a first block exam. Lunch will be available at 11:25 a.m. for high school students. These students should report to the library after lunch until dismissal at 2:05 p.m.

Semester One Exams are worth 10% of the semester grade with each quarter worth 45% of the semester grade.

Make-up exams will be scheduled beginning on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Teachers will administer make-up exams beginning at 11:30 each day.
*If school is canceled on an exam day, the exams scheduled for that day will be held on the next school day. If school is delayed, students will report to their advisory at 8:22 a.m. and the exams will begin at 8:36 a.m. and 10:28 a.m. Lunch would be at 12:22 in the event of a delay.
Spring 2019 College Coffee Hours
The NSHS School Counselors will be hosting three sessions of “College Coffee Hour” for parents in the spring of 2019. Each session will take place in the High School Guidance Office from 7:30-8:15 AM. These sessions are intended to give parents going through the college search process an opportunity to meet with school counselors and ask questions. We also welcome parents who have been through the process before to come and share their experiences with parents who have not been through the process. Topics will be discussed at each session and afterwards, there will be time for questions. If you would like to attend, please RSVP via this link:

Rhode Island Promise at CCRI
Rhode Island high school graduates (Through the HS Class of 2020) and GED recipients are eligible to pursue a tuition-free associate degree at CCRI.
That's right: Regardless of your family income, you won't pay tuition.
Start the application process now.
- Apply to CCRI today.
- Fill out the FAFSA and complete your financial aid file. If you have any questions or need help, don't hesitate to contact the Rhode Island Educational Opportunities Center (RIEOC).
- Submit your official, final high school or GED transcript. Contact CCRI Admissions if you have any problems getting your transcripts or scores: webadmission@ccri.edu or 401-825-2003.
- Fill out the Rhode Island Promise attestation form.
Who is eligible for Rhode Island Promise?
- Rhode Island residents.
- 2017 high school graduates (public, private or homeschooled).
- 2017 GED recipients who were younger than 19 years old when the GED was completed.
How do I maintain the scholarship for two years?
- Enroll full time (15 credits strongly encouraged).
- Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
- Earn 30 credits each year.
- Enroll each semester for two years. Fall and spring are required.
SAT & PSAT TEST DAY for Juniors and Sophomores is Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
The State of Rhode Island has established Tuesday, April 9, 2019 as the SAT and PSAT test date for all Rhode Island Juniors and Sophomores in public high schools. This is a free program for which students are already registered. More information will be sent home closer to the test date.
AP Exam Registration
The 2019 AP Exams will be administered over two weeks in May: May 6 through 10 and May 13 through 17. Registration will run from now to March 1, 2019. Only students who register and pay will be allowed to take the exam. The fee for each exam is $94 and only checks or money orders will be accepted, no cash. Please fill out the registration form in google classroom and give the checks to Ms. Olson in the NSHS main office. If you register and decide later to not take the exam, you will be refunded all but the $15 deposit. Financial Assistance is available for students in need, please see your counselor for details.
