The Eagle Eye
Children are the heart of Imlay!
Dear Imlay Families,
From Principal McCalley
Happy snowy day!
This week at Imlay students have done an amazing job getting in to the routine of 2nd semester and our attendance in CDL is doing great! Please remember that your child needs to attend all their groups each day in order to make the academic progress that we are hoping for. If your child is unable to attend a specific group or lesson, each teacher is recording the lesson and students may watch it at a different time. By watching a missed lesson later, it helps students fill in the gaps of what they missed. Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions about what time your student should be in groups each day.
Be sure to review the letter below from HSD about our return to school plans for elementary students. There is also a very important survey which needs to be completed by February 19, 2021.
Here are upcoming important dates:
- 2/15: No School, President's Day
2/18: Principal Chat in Spanish 5:00 pm Topic: Return to school plans
2/19: Return to School Survey Due
Please reach out to the office staff or myself if there is anything you need. We are here to help.
Yours in Eagle Pride,
Jen McCalley

New! Return to School Info!
Dear HSD Elementary Families,
We are currently working on a return-to-school plan for students for the remainder of this school year. There are many factors at play that will impact the timeline of our plan, including Washington County COVID case rates and guidance by Governor Brown and Oregon Department of Education. In the Hillsboro School District, we are working with our school leaders and our teachers’ union to create plans for the return to in-person school. This includes plans for transportation, safety protocols, the length and structure of the day, and how to serve students who will be coming into the building and those who will remain in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL). In order to plan effectively, however, we need information from you!
Again, we are still finalizing the details of what our hybrid model will look like. Please see our Return-to-School video for an overview of how the experience will be structured.
Much of our planning is dependent upon the number of students who will be returning to school in person versus those who will remain in CDL. We know making the decision is challenging and understanding your choices is important. If your child remains in CDL, the instructional day will be similar to what they are experiencing now, with some adjustments to schedules.
These are things we know at this time about in-person learning:
Bus transportation will be provided to and from school for students who live outside of the walk zone and who need it.
Safety measures and protocols will be put into place and followed in all areas occupied by students, including: the bus, classrooms, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. Face coverings are expected to be worn at all times (masks will be available at the school if students need them), physical distancing is both built into the environment (e.g. floor markers, directional signs, desk spacing, etc.) and expected of students and staff. Students will have opportunities throughout the day for hand sanitizing and handwashing.
If your child returns to school for in-person learning, they will be assigned to their current teacher and will receive instruction from that person. However, they may also receive instruction from other grade-level teachers for some lessons daily. Students may also be in alternative settings for their learning.
If your child will remain at home in Comprehensive Distance Learning, they may still receive instruction from their current teacher or may be reassigned to another teacher who only serves CDL students.
Students’ in-person instructional day will be a slightly shortened school day (versus a school day in a “normal” year). Our tentative plan is for students in grades PreK-2 to attend 4-5 days a week, and for students in grades 3-6 to attend two days a week and do CDL the other three days of the week.
Students will be offered a grab-and-go breakfast and lunch at school if they are on campus during service times.
This is your opportunity to share your intentions regarding your child(ren) returning to school. Your timely response will be a great help to us as we plan our spaces and structures for learning. Please fill out one survey for each elementary student in your household no later than Friday, Feb. 19, if possible.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility throughout this process. We look forward to continuing to serve your student(s) through the remainder of the school year.

Kindergarten Registration for 2021-22
Dear Imlay Families,
It is the time of year when we begin to identify children who qualify to attend kindergarten in September 2021. In the State of Oregon, children must turn 5 years old by 09/01/2021 in order to attend public school.
Kindergarten registration starts March 1st, 2021 for the 2021-2022 school year. If you have a child who is eligible for kindergarten in September 2021, please contact the school office or the HSD website at www.hsd.k12.or.us for online registration information.
If you know of a family who may have a child who should start kindergarten in the fall, please pass this information along to them or ask them to call 503-844-1090 for more information.
Thank you for your assistance, and we look forward to welcoming the graduating class of 2034!

Immunization Exclusion Day is Feb. 17
Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, child care facilities, and Head Start programs in Oregon. Nearly every facility that provides care for a child outside of the home requires immunizations or a medical or nonmedical exemption to remain enrolled.
Children who are not current on their immunizations by Feb. 17, 2021, will be excluded from school until their immunizations are updated. During Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), this means students will be put on a list and will not be allowed on campus for any reason until they have received the necessary immunizations (i.e. no limited-in-person activities, no hybrid learning, no in-person learning, no athletics or activities, no school events, and no afterschool programs such as BLAST).
Students and families in HSD can access immunizations at the District’s School-based Health Center on Century High School’s campus, as well as through their own healthcare providers.
COVID vaccines are not required for children and, in fact, the vaccines that have been approved by the FDA are not intended for children. However, the National Association of School Nurses has issued a statement in support of vaccination against COVID-19 for individuals 16 years of age and younger.
