Fulton Focus

For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District

May 16, 2019

A message from the Superintendent

Dear Parents and Patrons,

School is over for the traditional academic year! I suspect many are glad as the year seemed very long which I suspect is due to a significant amount of inclement weather and variable weather this Spring.

Even though this academic year is final, I hope your student(s) learning continues throughout the summer. Perhaps scheduled trips to the local library to keep practicing reading skills, participation in a summer sport and/or adventure camp or a family trip exploring various area sites. Personally, I have enjoyed visiting the Missouri State Capitol Museum. Items of note on my list include the Thomas Hart Benton mural, the gallery of famous Missourians and the multi-perspective painting on the third floor. However, there are many more interesting exhibits and activities.

Next school year three of our six building administrators are changing. Mrs. Lynne Engle, Bush Elementary School Principal, and Mrs. Connie Epperson, Bartley Elementary School Principal are retiring. Both have 29 years experience in the District and have numerous hobbies and activities planned with their grandchildren. Mr. Chris Mincher, FHS Principal is returning to his hometown and will take a similar position in the Fort Zumwalt School District. Each individual has made significant contributions to FPS and will be missed!

On the other hand, please welcome our new Principals pictured below! All are excited to be in FPS and their respective buildings. A future Focus will highlight each individual later this summer.

Friday, the District will be receiving two new buses. Approximately 25% of each bus was paid by the Volkswagen Diesel fuel settlement. This grant allowed the purchase of brand new buses at the same price we have been purchasing two-year units with about 25,000 miles.

This summer all elementary playgrounds will be upgraded through a Department of Natural Services grant and district resources. We are optimistic all work will be completed by the new school year.

Please encourage your student(s) to keep reading, stay active, and be safe this summer! Thanks for sending great kids for us to work with!

Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
