Mountaineer Messenger September
Principal's Message
Greetings Mountain View Community,
Thanks to our hard-working staff, our first week of school launched beautifully. The custodial crew had the building looking like new, our kitchen staff did a great job of preparing and training the incoming 6th graders on how to use the middle school lunch system, and the teachers worked over time to get their rooms and lessons ready.
When you come to the Back to School Night on September 13th, I hope you have a chance to walk the halls and see building culture as expressed through our walls and messages. You will see many examples of the work your students are doing in their classes. We are excited to share this learning with you.
You will notice that I will talk a lot about the importance of attendance with parents, students, teachers and staff. Our tag line this year is: “Be here every day; it matters!” Thank you for your support of keeping our students engaged in their primary job of learning each and every day. In the future, I’ll report out on our progress and keep our performance on improving daily attendance public.
One thing you can do at home is help keep cell phones away from students’ beds at night. There is a lot of research that shows this helps protect our kids from the negative effects of social media and improves their sleep. It is not easy. As a parent of teenagers, I battle this often and have made this a rule in our house after I learned how important just that one guideline is for protecting our kids. Join the movement; it’s a great cause!
