GC Gives Thanks
There are a lot of amazing things happening in public education. Greenup County teachers, staff, and students spend each day contributing to these amazing things. Your impact goes beyond the classroom walls, into the community, and stretches even farther across the world.
We are sharing stories of thankfulness throughout the month of November. Some of these stories can be found on Greenup's Facebook and Twitter accounts. We'd love to hear your account - just email it to scarlet.shoemaker@greenup.kyschools.us. The guidelines are listed below.
Share a quick personal story, in your own words, about one of the following (it can be as short as 2-3 sentences):
- An event during your own education that resonated with you.
- A time when you shared an a-ha moment with a student.
- A time when a co-worker made a difference for you or a student.
- A positive instance when a parent/guardian really impacted you or your students.
- Any other education moment in time that made a positive impact.
Two participants will be randomly drawn to receive a $20 gift card from Giovanni's! You can also join in on your personal accounts using the hashtag #GCGivesThanks
If you'd like to read all of the stories in one place, I have compiled them on a Padlet wall. You can access it here: https://padlet.com/stacey_spears/thanks

HOUR OF CODE
Teachers with no computing experience can still help spark student interest in the field of computer science. December 4-10 is Computer Science Education week. During this week, students around the world participate in Hour of Code, which happens to be the largest learning event in history!
I urge all classroom teachers to sign up to participate in Hour of Code here (there could be an upcoming contest for participants). By signing up, you agree to have your students work on the Hour of Code website for at least 60 minutes during this week. You don't have to teach programming skills because the activities are designed for students to learn on their own. 100 classes will win either a set of robots or computing kits.

We Have a Guess Who? Flipgrid Winner!
At the top of the grid is a link to the Google Doc where all guesses were made. You can find out who my mystery person was by clicking on that document. Congratulations Bobbi Brumfield for figuring out the correct person!
Code-a-Pillar Wants to Meet the Preschoolers!
I'd really like to visit the preschool and kindergarten classrooms between now and Christmas with this. Please email me a time for me to stop in.
This would also make a great Christmas gift for a young child!
