Miss Lotter's Leaders!

Parent Newsletter: September 14-18

Hello Fourth Grade Parents!

To begin, I wanted to thank all of you for your support so far this year! We have such an incredible group of parents and it makes the biggest difference in our classroom! We are going to continue our focus this year of helping shape leaders not only in our classroom, but in all of Claxton and the community!

Peek at the Week!

Math: We are going to continue our unit on place value, but begin solving and analyzing subtraction problems.

Language Arts: We are going to officially start Daily Five! We are finished with all of our launching lessons and I think that our students are ready to be independent learners! We built our stamina up all the way to 24 minutes!!

In writing, we will continue to focus on personal narratives and we will begin to write one of our own! I am super excited to see what stories your children have to share!

Science: We are wrapping up our unit on health and nutrition this week. I am beyond excited for students to participate in our healthy living day on September 18 to promote a nutritious lifestyle!

Week of Caring!

In honor of the tragic event on September 11, 2001, our class decided to participate in a Week of Caring. In remembrance of the victims, our students decided to do one kind thing that would make someone smile each day. They did a terrific job and spread a lot of happiness throughout our school! What great leaders!

"You are just like Michelle Obama!"

This video clip is Kennedy Wilson giving our class an inspirational pep talk to end our morning meeting. She is so wise and well-spoken! The students said that she is just like Michelle Obama. If that is not a great compliment on her leadership skills, I don't know what is!

Writer's Spotlight!

During work on writing in Daily Five, one of our students, Grant Sullivan, wrote a poem about our class. He decided to share it with us and we all loved it so much that we rewrote it and put it up in the hallway! I think that it is just adorable!

We are becoming better people, readers, and writers!

Reminders and Support!

-If your child is struggling with something on their homework, they may circle it and ask for help the next day. Homework is due every Friday.

-As the student's grades are starting to come in, please remind them that they are allowed to redo their assignments for half credit back!

-Please return the permission slips for the Back to School Dance on September 17!

-Please return the Montreat field trip permission form with the $30 for your child to go. If you need help with the funds for this, please let me know! The trip is this Thursday, September 17!

-Raleigh chaperones: If you would like to chaperone for Raleigh, you have to pay in full for yourself and your child. That amount comes to $320 and we only have 2 remaining chaperone spots for our class.

-The only support we need this week is to continue to encourage your child to come to school and try their best! Also, to really help them in becoming a leader through emphasizing those leadership habits whenever possible.

Thank you for all that you do!
