Luce Notes
Important information, dates, and school updates.
What's the scoop at the Luce?
Hello Luce Families,
This month we are emphasizing safety for all. The CAPT, Tuesday Tea, and the Luce Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion meetings will be virtual. I will send out the virtual meeting links for these meetings on the meeting day.
We will postpone large assemblies at school until the data on Covid cases improve. Again, we want to ensure that all students and staff are safe.
Please see the essential information for this week.
Half-Day Notice: Friday, January 14
This Friday, January 14, is a half-day. School hours are 9:10-12:20 pm. Please make sure to make the necessary arrangements for pickup on that day.
Covid Mitigation Strategies
Please make sure to do the at-home screener to ensure you are checking for signs of sickness before sending your child to school. If your child is sick, please do not hesitate to call Nurse Bonner at (781) 821-5075 ext 6109.
At the Luce this winter, we will continue to implement the following Covid Mitigation Strategies:
- Regular handwashing and sanitizing throughout the day
- Masks while inside and not eating
- Snack outside weather permitting
- Snack indoors between 5-7 min
- Desks spaced out as much as possible (there is no distance requirement this year)
- Assigned seats at lunch
- Windows open
- Air humidifiers on at high
Most importantly, please do not send your child to school if you think your child is sick. Again, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Nurse Bonner at (781) 821-5075 ext 6109.

Luce Playground Subcommittee Meeting
The Luce is getting a new playground this year. The subcommittee and I have worked hard to ensure we get the best playground for our community. In January, we will engage all students in a democratic process to select aspects of the playground, including the color scheme and an element of the structure.
I want to give a major thank you to the committee members for all of their hard work. The following amazing community members are on the playground subcommittee:
- Jammie Carty
- Stephanie Curenton-Jolly
- Frankie Joyce
- Amy Peterson
The subcommittee will complete its work by the end of January, and construction on the playground will take place in June of this year.

Boosterthon - The Luce Shine Sprint -March 18-29
Boosterthon and the Luce Shine Sprint is returning and will take place March 18th- 29th! To increase the excitement and school spirit of this event, we’re hoping to provide each student with a FREE custom Luce School t-shirt to wear the day of the Luce Shine Sprint event, at no cost to the student or the school. To make this happen, we need your help! We’re hoping to partner with local businesses to help sponsor these shirts. Last Week's News
Substitutes Needed (Repost)
Do you have a college-age child coming home for winter break? If so, would they be interested in subbing for the Canton Public Schools while they are here? Subbing is a great way to keep busy, make money and get real-world work experience. In Canton, we have had great success bringing our own, former students back to help support our students and schools during this busy time year. If your child is interested, please have them fill out this sub application packet and email it to Kim Eardley (eardleyk@cantonma.org) to get the process started. If they fill it out before they get home, the process can begin asap!
Students in their first year of college are able to sub at the elementary and preschool levels only.
Students in their second year or beyond can sub at all school levels.
