AUGUST 24, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
The start of the school year is just around the corner. This week, we’ve welcomed new staff to our building for orientation and to provide support for a successful launch to the year. We are one step closer to welcoming our students to a new year rich with learning and development opportunities.
Find schedules and get ready
Final student schedules for the first trimester are available on Student Campus Portal.
Review this newsletter and visit the Back-to-School hub at SpringLakeParkSchools.org/BackToSchool for your back-to-school checklist. You’ll find school supply lists, Free and Reduced-Price Meals and Education Benefits application (Please complete an application!), iPad preparation information, and more.
Meet teachers and visit the building
We hope your student(s) and family can come by and visit the building before the first day of school. We will host an open house just for our incoming 9th graders, and another open house for our sophomores, juniors and seniors. If you are unable to attend an open house and have questions about schedules, please reach out to your student's counselor.
Open house for 9th grade students is Tuesday, August 30 from 3-6 p.m. Activities during open house include:
- Pick up your new school-issued iPad, keyboard and charger. You must bring your old/current school-issued iPad, case and charger to turn in in order to receive your new iPad
- Review your class schedule
- Meet teachers
- Walk your schedule and see your classrooms
- Have your school photo taken
- Turn in required forms
- Learn about getting involved in activities and athletics
Open house for 10th – 12th grade students is Wednesday, August 31 from 3-6 p.m.
- Review your class schedule
- Meet teachers
- Walk your schedule and see your classrooms
- Have your school photo taken
- Turn in required forms
- Learn about getting involved in activities and athletics
What’s up with construction?
Anyone who has driven by the high school lately has seen a bit of construction. Our swimming pool is being re-bricked, the work will be extending into September. There will be some equipment in that area through the start of the school year and the area will be secure. Thank you for your understanding as we take care of the buildings we view as community resources.
Finally, please take a moment to review the reminders and information in this newsletter to support families transitioning back to a full-time school day schedule. Please reach out if you have additional questions. In the meanwhile, I hope families are able to get in some quality family time between now and the first days of school. Take care and be well.
With gratitude,
Matthew Boucher
Principal

Picture Day
Lifetouch photography will be here during our open houses, August 30 and August 31 to take your students 2022-2023 school portrait.
We would like all 9th-11th grade students to have their photo taken for the 2022-2023 yearbook and for their student ID. Grade 12 students who haven't made an appointment directly with David Banks for their Senior Portrait will have an opportunity during the school day in October.

Updates from the Health office
As we begin the school year, the public health context is, thankfully, quite different than the past two school years. We have and continue to follow guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health and they align to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
COVID-19 related guidance has been significantly relaxed for schools as we enter a new school year. There are a few updates for families:
- Communicate illnesses: Please continue to update the school nurse if your child tests positive for a communicable illness such as flu or COVID-19. The nurse will provide information on return to school. Please stay home if you are sick.
- COVID-19 at-home tests: At-home COVID-19 antigen tests are available in the health office for those who request them. No other testing will be done at school.
- Immunizations and vaccines: Now is the time to make sure your child is up to date on all recommended immunizations. Getting vaccinated is an important tool to keep our students safe and healthy while they are in school. The pandemic has caused a number of disruptions in people’s lives, and many children have fallen behind on getting recommended vaccines. Children and teens can get COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines they need at the same visit. See the Minnesota Department of Health information on vaccines for infants, children and adolescents. See our website for more immunization information.
Find the Spring Lake Park Schools 2022-2023 Safe Return to In-Person Learning Plan online. Access Minnesota Department of Health's website for the latest guidance for schools, child care, parent and caregivers. MDH COVID-19 Public Hotline continues to be available at 1-833-431-2053.
