Day 77
Good Morning,
I hope that you are finding peace in your morning. As we turn the corner into summer there are a lot of resources to share. Tonight we are gathering with the counseling team to learn about ways to support kids during this challenging summer.
Students who were receiving free or reduced-price meals prior to the COVID-19 pandemic can get extra money for groceries to ensure they have enough to eat during the current crisis. These food benefits are called Pandemic EBT or P-EBT and are in addition to grab-n-go meals served by schools and nonprofits in your community.
Families will get up to $365 for grocereis per eligible student on a P-EBT card which can be used like a debit card at grocery stores, farmer’s markets, and online at Walmart.com or Amazon.com (home delivery charges might apply).
All students who receive CalFresh, Medi-Cal or foster service benefits should automatically receive a P-EBT card in the mail by May 25. If you have not received a card, please call (877) 328-9677.
Sending you health and peace,
Sarah
Counseling Parent Meeting is Today!
Counseling Parent Meeting is Today!
The Counseling Team, Monique, Nahomi and Betsy, are hosting a meeting for SDCCS families to go over supports and resources for the summer as well as reviewing markers of stress in students and what to do.
We would like to invite you to an online Zoom meeting on June 3, 2020 at 4 pm to provide a space to express your concerns and questions. During this time we will also share some of the ways that we would like to continue to support you and your family this summer. From resources available in the community to self care care and your child’s continued emotional well being. In addition, we have asked our Specials team to join with some go to activities to refer to on those days that may seem endless.

Mindful activities list for you and yours
We can’t breathe
There’s an eastern belief
as we age
the center of our breath travels
across our body.
It begins at our stomach,
with an initial cry
and moves towards our chest,
Until it’s at our throat and then it ends.
I find myself purposefully
Forcing myself to continue to breathe from my stomach
Holding time
Hoarding youth
Grasping life
And I think about the last few weeks
As we globally experience the traumatic impact of COVID
The suffocation of Coronavirus victims,
The gasping of last breaths
The breathless pace of essential workers
The inability to have the necessary ventilators
to aid breathing
The anxiety self-isolation has caused
And its impact on how we breathe
the mandatory masks
And the protests
I can’t breathe
The uneven numbers of Black and Brown brethren
A larger collective disruption
I can’t breathe.
And now George Floyd’s last cry
I can’t breathe
And the protests
the tear gas
I can’t breathe
And
The times we hold our breath
Held our thoughts
Bit our tongues
Hold in who we are
because
Being Black and Brown in America is suffocating
