Walk to School Day Fundraiser Wednesday, October 10, 2018
Cumberland Road is super excited to announce the first-ever Walk to School Day. As a launch for our One Book, One School experience, students have begun reading and learning about the global issue surrounding access to clean water and we have concluded that ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER IS A HUMAN RIGHT!
Our goal is to raise $1,000 as part of the “Iron Giraffe Challenge” for the organization Water for South Sudan. The Iron Giraffe is a machine used to drill wells, providing 1000s of people with access to clean water. Once a well is drilled, schools, markets, and clinics spring up, and life changes, especially for women and girls.
As an added challenge, we are asking walkers to carry with them 1-gallon jugs of water that will be donated to a local service organization that works with people who have little access to clean water.
Our students want to make a difference on a local and global scale. Would you consider making a donation of any amount toward this event, as well as participate by walking to school?
Please register your walkers by Friday, October 5.
