2017-18 Update
Art
Art is coming to OVS! We have approval for a part-time art teacher. I will share more information as to which grade levels art will be offered. It looks like this will be an offering for full-time students only.
PE update
In reviewing the K12, PE curriculum it looks like it will work best in the 6th-8th grade environment. We will not force PE at K-5 if is not the best learning experience for our students. Stay Tuned.
9th Grade Update
I had a wonderful meeting with Omaha North curriculum supervisor! We will have some great elective offerings available to our 9th graders at Omaha North. I can tell you that right now, Spanish and art courses are not looking like an option as they are all full. However, there are other world language options available (possibly French and German).
I am working on the list of courses and when they are offered at Omaha North to develop a course catalog for 9th grade students to choose from. I will be reaching out to current 8th grade families regarding a date for a 9th grade specific infosession at Omaha North on Wednesday, May 24 in the morning.
I will walk through the MCC @ Fort Omaha building next week to start mapping out what rooms and spaces we will use for our high school.
I have started interviewing teacher candidates and am excited to build our new team!
If you have specific questions about the 9th grade experience, please let me know.
Make Sure to Re-register for 2017-18
- Log into the OLS (online.k12.com/login) using their Learning Coach username and password.
- Go to "My Info" under the Quick Links section
- On the My Info page, click the "Re-register Now" icon. This will take you to the registration page.
- On the re-registration page, the " re-registration status" in light blue box will default to the "unknown." Click "unknown" and a pop up window will appear
- Re-registering: Check "re-registering" from the drop-down menu if your student is returning next school year. If you have more than one student and they all will be returning, check the box next to "same for all students." Repeat the first step if not all students are returning next school year. Check the two boxes to to confirm understanding that previous agreements still apply and you have the legal authority to make registration decisions for each student. Press "Save" in agreement.
- Not re-registering: Select " Not re-registering" from the drop down menu if your student will not be returning for the next school year.
- Undecided: Select "undecided" if you have not yet decided whether your student will return. Please update your registration once you have decided if your student will be attending or not for the upcoming school year.
If you have not completed re-registration, we ask it be done immediately. Re-registration is a process to hold your spot, it is not the time where you have to select courses or enrollment status (Full vs Part -time).
Math MAP Testing Next Week
This is the final week for MAP testing for MATH during Face to face time. If absent, please work with teacher to schedule a make-up. Student MAP results will be distributed the following week during learning coach training on May 23-25. This training is to provide a refresher or introduction on how to use Study Island with your students. It is recommended that LC's bring a home device so they can learn how to login on the home device.
Visit Study Island this summer!
Students will have access to Study Island over the summer. We will upload the end of the year MAP scores into Study Island to create a new individualized learning plan for 2nd-8th grade students to work through.
Stay tuned for a Blue Ribbon incentive over the summer!
Returning Materials at End of School Year
K12 will be sending an email May 15th for Learning Coaches to return materials. Check out these Frequently Asked Questions to know what materials to send back. Materials can be combined together to be sent back in any box. We encourage you to package up materials prior to receiving the email with shipping labels to expedite returning the materials. You do not need to return the materials until the end of the course.

Tech Tips
1) K12’s recommended/supported browser for its websites is now Mozilla Firefox (not Google Chrome): With Chrome 56, Adobe Flash Player is automatically blocked for most sites that require the plugin, thus requiring several actions on the end user’s part to make it work. Firefox allows the app to be enabled automatically.
2) Google Chrome may need to change the settings for Flash within Chrome. To review these settings, type “chrome://settings/content” in the URL textbox and press the return key. In the new window that pops open, scroll down to the area cleverly labeled “Flash”. You can set Flash to always run, which may be required to work with k12. Or, you can click the “Manage exceptions…” button and be more selective as to what is or is not allowed to run Flash.” Click HERE for any frequently asked questions from Google Chrome.
