Pathfinder Elementary - November 21, 2017
Academic Alignment and WIGs
This year our focus at Pathfinder is on setting goals for our school, classroom, and each student that are aligned to one academic area--reading. We are tracking the progress of students’ reading levels and other personal goals related to reading. You may have heard your child state that they have met their “WIG”. WIG stands for Wildly Important Goal, and it really is what it states--a really important goal!
We are having students focus and set an individual goal for what they personally need to work on in reading. Each student’s needs are different in our school, and each goal is different throughout each classroom and grade level. However, we will always have one thing in common--working on our reading!
When a student meets their individual goal it helps the class, grade level, and ultimately the school meet the WIG. Here are a few pictures of our school-wide goal and classroom goal bulletin boards.
Car Rider Update
Lost and Found
Mittens, hats, socks, and shoes…they are all in our Lost and Found bin. Starting Friday, November 17th - Friday, December 1st we will have items laid out on tables for students and parents to claim. All other unclaimed items will be washed and donated to Hillcrest Ministries after Thanksgiving Break.
PTA Pancake Breakfast with Santa
Saturday, December 9th from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Cost: $4.50 in advance and $5.50 at the door
Our annual PTA Pancakes with Santa event at Pathfinder is right around the corner! Chris Cakes will be serving up pancakes during the event. An opportunity to snap a picture with Santa will take place from 8:00 to 10:00, but please make sure to bring your own camera. We are also asking that families donate new mittens and socks to help restock the health room.
In addition to the pancakes and pictures with Santa, we are adding some festive music performed by our Pathfinder students. Second grade students will be performing in the gym at 8:30, third grade students at 9:00, and our fourth grade students will be wrapping up the performances at 9:30.
Pathfinder Art Show
Saturday, December 9th from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.
The students at Pathfinder have come together to create artwork for a spectacular Art Show Celebration. Every student will have their own masterpiece framed and on display. This is over 600 pieces of artwork on display! During the Art Show, families will have the opportunity to purchase the framed artwork for $23.00 and take it home that day. Payments can be made with cash or check. Your child's framed artwork would make a great holiday gift! Make plans to eat some pancakes, listen to great music, and view/purchase awesome art work! If you cannot attend this event, please contact Mrs. Jamison, Art teacher, for additional information.
Major Saver Fundraiser
Support our Schools, Classrooms, and Graduates - Foundation Fundraiser
On Thursday, we kicked off the annual Platte County Education Foundation fundraiser, offering Major Saver discount cards through PCR-3 elementary and middle schools. Students should be coming home with sales packets and can sell the $15 cards featuring 20 local, buy-one-get-one free offers until November 30. Proceeds from the sales directly support the participating schools and the Foundation. They make great stocking stuffers! Support our schools, classrooms, and graduates - Buy yours at www.majorsaver.com/cards/!
The Platte County Education Foundation uses money raised by this fundraiser and other donations to give back to the Platte County R-3 community by awarding annual pre-K through 12th grade classroom and building site grants, as well as senior scholarships. I wanted to list a few examples of how Pathfinder Elementary has benefited:
- Last year we had two $500 Classroom Grant recipients - Barbie Glidewell for her "Breakout Education" supplies, and Ashley Seidl to fund her "Synergize with STEM" classroom activities.
- In 2016, our Speech Language Pathologist, Suzanne Morris, was a $500 Classroom Grant recipient for her "Move While I Learn" project.
- Each year, proceeds from this fundraiser also help support student activities in our school, such as special assemblies, field trips, etc.
The Holiday Giving Tree
Each year, our building social worker coordinates a holiday gift adoption program called The Giving Tree. This program specifically benefits our students whose family meets criteria for holiday assistance. Since the beginning of our Giving Tree, we have been able to make the holiday season brighter for over 300 students and families.
This program would not be possible without the support of our giving community. If you, your church or even community organization would be interested in adopting a child or family, please email Heather Schuller, social worker, at email@example.com.
Thank you for considering making the holiday season a little brighter for our students and families throughout Pathfinder, we couldn’t do this without you all!
Fall District Parent Survey
The Platte County School District will be conducting its annual parent survey to gather feedback on strengths of the district, as well as areas to consider for growth. Your input is important and will be considered when making future decisions.
Parents will be invited to complete the survey during Parent/Teacher conferences. The survey should take approximately fifteen minutes to complete. Pathfinder families who complete the survey during conferences will be able to put their name in a drawing for special family night prize packs. We appreciate your time and feedback!
Newly enrolled families will automatically receive an opt-in message from 68453. If you missed it, simply text “Yes” to 67587 to receive text messages.
