Literary Pumpkin Patch

Each year, the Northern Hills Library grows a pumpkin patch. Classrooms were asked to submit a pumpkin in the likeness of their favorite literary character. There were eleven awesome entries. The judges had a difficult time choosing the top three. The overall winner was A Bad Case of Stripes by Ondrias' class. The two runner ups were Skippyjon Jones from Leas' class and Junie B. Jones from Chavez's class. The Skippyjon Jones entry even had a technology component. The class created a Chatterpix of Skippyjon Jones. The campus loved seeing the creative entries.

What's The Matter With Third Grade?

Absolutely nothing!

Third graders reviewed properties of matter at eight different science stations. They used iPads to check their classifying of objects using QR codes, created a "matter menu" using the Educreations app, and used an ebook about matter to look for information about nonfiction text features. The desktops were used to work on vocabulary by using an online dictionary. Students used their senses to describe the properties of Oobleck.

Upper Grades Know Their Resources!

Upper grades are learning about the library resources. In addition, they have the opportunity to get into Overdrive and practice checking out ebooks. If you have a upper grade student, ask them to show you how to check out an ebook!

Bluebonnet Book Kickoff

Grades 3-5 came to the library to see book trailers of the 20 Bluebonnet nominees. In addition, they were able to see all of the awesome prizes they can earn for reading the books and passing quizzes on them. A large amount of students have been coming in the library to take quizzes.

The three major prizes are a large stuffed dolphin, a Kawai Leonard jersey, and an art kit. The prizes are shown below.

We Love iPads in the Library!

Besides using iPads in science stations students are using them during library lessons. Kinder used the Show Me app to sequence the story "Big Pumpkin". First and second grade used the interactive app Nearpod to review their knowledge of seasons.
