A Principal's Perspective
Welcome Back!
It is second semester. First semester flew by and we have already hit the ground running. The finish line is closely approaching for all students but especially our seniors. Graduation will be here before you know it. Our focus for this last semester for ALL students is to complete as many classes as possible. A minimum of 42 credits is required for all high school graduates. We have set every student up to earn the needed credits to end the semester on track or better than they started the semester. It is up to the student to put in the work at school and for some outside of school in order to complete classes.
Middle school students are still working towards their goal of returning to their home schools at the completion of their 9 weeks. 3 week meeting check-ins are scheduled with student's home school to discuss the progress that they are making and to discuss areas of focus. Reminder that we are taking into consideration students' behavior, attendance, and grades when considering transitions. All students are expected to exhibit Civility, Order, Respect, and Excellence in all they do! Regular lessons are being taught daily in their CORE Success Class.
Again, welcome back and as always thank you for allowing me to serve you and your student!
Middle School Moment
Welcome Back! Remember if you have questions regarding your student's progress you can reach out to any of your student's teachers. Email addresses are provided below!
Lastly, middle school students are expected to comply with dress code at all times. Visit your home schools website for any dress code questions. Rule of thumb! If they couldn't wear it at their home schools they can't wear it here!

Dean's Corner -- Discussion With The Dean
Welcome back Renaissance family,
With the start of a new semester, I wanted to reiterate some of the rules for attending Renaissance.
1. Please call anytime your student will be absent from school. It is important that all students attend regularly in order to keep up their grades and earn their credits.
2. If your student is driving to school, I must receive a copy of the student's license, registration and insurance in order to park on the school grounds.
3. Students are not permitted to bring outside food or drinks to class. They must finish them in the cafeteria during the time allotted for meals.
4.Students may bring phones, but must put them up during class time. There will be specified times in some classes that they may use them, but that will be at the teachers discretion.
5. Students are not permitted to leave school grounds without parental permission. The parent/guardian must call the front office and confirm that the student may leave.
If you have any questions about these or any other rules, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Have a great 2020!
Mr. Z

Welcome back FIRBIRDS……Let’s get ready to burn this last semester up with as many credits as we can. Stay focused, Stay on Track and Stay Ready!!! In order to do that we need to minimize distractions and maintain awareness.
Social Media Safety Awareness
Social media is a daily part of most people’s lives in our world today, especially teens. Most of us interact with others over the internet quite often, whether that be through email and messenger devices or through applications such as Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and more. The list seems to grow longer and longer. However, there are many dangers that come along with social media and being vigilant is important.
Online Safety:
- Privacy: The private settings allow you to control who sees your activity and to track who follows you. Do not accept friend or follow requests from people you do not know.
- If it seems suspicious, report it: Online stalkers may begin to message or track you online. If people you do not know try to contact you, report it to the website. Block them from your page. If it becomes threatening, dangerous, or harassment, report it to the police.
- Once sent, always sent: Remember that once you send, post, or share something to someone else, it is forever out there. Even with apps such as Snapchat, where the images disappear, you cannot take them back. You do not control what another person does with your information, pictures, messages, etc. So think through possible repercussions before you send something.
- What would Grandma say?: Future employers often search for people on social media before hiring. Think about one basic question before posting: would I want my grandma to see this? If the answer is no, it is probably wise not to post it. If you would not want future bosses, teachers, college admissions officers, and even grandma to see it, do not post it.
- Passwords: Use different passwords for all of your accounts, and do not share them with anyone. This helps to prevent hackers from hacking into your accounts.
Cyberbullying:
- What is cyberbullying? Cyberbullying is the use of electronic devices to bully, threaten, harass, or intimidate another person.
- Why should I be concerned? The advance of technology has allowed for immediate communication 24/7. This means that teens who are cyberbullied may have trouble finding relief from the pain. It can be persistent.
- How do I notice it? Because it takes place online or over electronics, it is more difficult for teachers and parents to notice it. Check in with others regularly to ensure that you nor others are being cyberbullied. If someone becomes suddenly withdrawn or completely obsessed with internet usage, check in with them. They may either be a victim or perpetrator of cyberbullying.
- If you wouldn’t say it face-to-face, do not say it online.

Can't wait to celebrate all the students showing CORE next semester!
Raptor Visitor Management System
Currently, every visitor who enters our building is asked to present a state of federal ID, such as a Driver’s License, and it is scanned into the Raptor System. Once the visitor has been approved, the office staff enters the reason, destination of the visit and the Raptor System will print a photo ID visitor badge. If for any reason a parent or guardian does not have a U.S. government-issued ID, the staff member can use any form of ID and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor System. Beginning November 11, 2019, this will apply to our PreK-4 campuses as well.
A photo ID visitor badge is not required for those who visit our schools to drop off an item or pick-up paperwork at the front desk. Further, they may drop off their items(s) or remain in the waiting area until their student is available. Please be aware that current practices established in each building remain in effect.
The safety of our students is our highest priority. The Raptor Visitor Management System provides us with a consistent process of knowing who is in our buildings at all times as well as a tool to identify those individuals who may present a danger to our students and staff.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support towards enhancing school safety protocols in our district. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us here at Renaissance at 317-532-2996.
