Renaissance High School Newsletter
December 2018 Issue
A message from the principal:
December is here! The first few months of school have gone by quickly. Since this is our first "official" Renaissance newsletter I wanted to share some highlights thus far.
September brought a lovely talk by our school's mentor, Mr. John Acton. As is becoming our tradition, Mr. Acton came in for an all school meeting and reminded our students of their great potential and that they are loved and cared for by the community. He challenged everyone of us to make a difference by donating 26 cents. These funds will be used for students' needs, scholarships, and other worthwhile initiatives presented by students or staff to make Renaissance a better place.
In October Mrs. Miller began a project based unit on infectious disease! Mrs. Miller attended training over the summer on creating projects that implement deeper thinking and student-led learning.
November brought not only a snow day but a flurry of generous donations. Mr. Acton through his 'Friends of Renaissance' group donated generously to the school. Clarkston United Methodist Church, our neighbors, fully funded our shoe program. We will be purchasing 8 - 10 pairs of gym shoes that students can check out (think of a bowling ally) for use during physical education, open gym at lunch, or after school basketball when it begins. November could not be complete without mentioning our long standing tradition (12 years) where Thanksgiving dinner was provided for the entire school by Way Point Church.
As we look forward to 2019 I want to thank each of you for supporting RHS students and staff. Together we can make a difference for our students both in academic achievement and allowing them to see themselves as we do... capable of reaching their goals and becoming change agents.
Sincerely, Christa Fons
