Murphy Elementary Library Lions
Mrs. Stefanie Tisius, Librarian
The NEW Murphy Library
It has been a very exciting year so far for the Murphy Elementary Library. We started the year anxiously anticipating the completion of the new library. In mid-September the construction was complete and Mrs. Tisius spent 4 days moving into the beautiful new space. Once everything was ready, the students enjoyed touring the new library. During the first week of October, students began checking out books.

Destiny Library Catalog
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders have been using the laptops to log into their Destiny Accounts to create "Just Right" Reading Lists. These students will then be using their lists during check-out time to find books that are on their reading level.

New Library Soft Seating Area
The students at Murphy Elementary are loving our new soft seating area in the library that we have named the "caterpillar." It has become their new favorite reading spot.
Kindergarten Students Vote!
Kindergarten has been participating in the Missouri Library Association’s Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award program since the beginning of the school year. The MO Building Block Picture Book Award is presented annually to the author and illustrator of a picture book that was voted most popular by the young children in Missouri. This program is designed to encourage reading aloud to children from birth to kindergarten. After Murphy kindergartners listened to the 10 nominated titles for this year, they voted in December for their favorite book. Each student has taken home a certificate showing they participated in this program. Remember that reading aloud to your child is critical to supporting the development of reading skills.
Famous Missourian Research
In the month of November, our 4th graders utilized Google Classroom while in the library to organize and record notes on their famous Missourians. Mrs. Tisius put to use the Google Classroom application allowing students to manage their notes using Google Slides. They then used these notes to help them create their final projects in their classroom.
