Student Advocacy Counseling Corner
Hello Scarborough Families,
Happy February! This month's Student Advocacy Google Classroom is dedicated to Friendships. Friendships take on a new importance during middle school and these friendships can sometimes be challenging to navigate.
You will find 10 different links to videos and other resources that, we hope, will help your child navigate their peer relationships more successfully. Our goal, with these monthly Google Classrooms, is to encourage families to view them together! Hopefully this shared experience will encourage conversations and create stronger connections both at school and at home.
As always, Mrs. Grant and Mrs. Jones are here as a resource for you and your child. Please feel free to reach out at any time.
Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness:
The Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness is an organization that strives to promote safe, respectful and inclusive schools. To meet schools’ needs safely, Cromwell offered a new program delivery method for the 2020/21 school year. Rather than visiting schools in person, they provided a ready-to-use, complete and comprehensive disabilities awareness and inclusion curriculum called Respecting ABILITIES. This curriculum is being delivered to all 6th graders during Quarter 3 by our Student Advocacy staff.
The curriculum allows children to:
Understand that disabilities are an aspect of human diversity and do not define a person
Break down stereotypes about differences and similarities
Explore the power of unkind words, exclusion, and bias
Identify and role play solutions to disability-related mistreatment and bullying
Practice empathy and inclusion.
For more information about The Cromwell Center lessons, please contact Michelle Grant at migrant@scarboroughschools.org or visit: https://cromwellcenter.org/about-us/
All of our best,
Michelle Grant
