We recently read the power standards article that provided the reasons that we must narrow our focus and select the standards that are most important. These standards are enduring from grade to grade and are needed for students to be successful. It is important that we not just cover standards but that we teach them in depth and ensure student learning. Marzano calls it the guaranteed and viable curriculum. his means it does not matter which teacher you get, every student will learn these standards. Also, viable means doable. We cannot teach every standards in depth, therefore we must select the most important and then measure our progress. Keep working units and use the Unit Status to update your progress. There is no need to rush, we would rather have high quality products/units. Norms are due soon.
Advisory Corner-remember to brainstorming Justice additions
Teachers you should be brainstorming accountability measures with your students. After you are satisfied with our list, please combine with your teacher during a team/grade level meeting and condense the list to share with team leaders.
What happens when students bully someone else?
What happens when a student is having difficulty with another student?
What happens if a student repeatedly violates classroom rules/procedures?
Feel free to use this article this week as a discussion in Advisory.
When completed we will have a Town Hall Meeting by team to share results and maybe have our 1st PBS drawing.
