Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
Earlier this week, the neighboring school district of Lawrence Township, lost an amazing leader, colleague, and friend. The impact of this tragic accident has been far-reaching. There are so many children and adults with connections to Principal Susan Jordan and her family. When events like this occur, it is more important than ever to notice how our children may be responding to bits and pieces of the news that they may hear. It is difficult to know the "right thing" to say...but it is important to acknowledge that it is a sad time for many and listening to your students concern may be all that is needed.
This has been a time of reflection for many educators, parents, families, and students. It has been inspiring to watch the videos and read the articles about the difference Mrs. Jordan made in the lives of so many. This has been a powerful reminder to me and the New Britton staff about the importance of a nurturing, safe, cohesive school community. I am grateful today and every day to work with this amazing group of educators, students, and families. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

ATTENTION 3RD and 4th GRADE PARENTS – ISTEP part 1 testing will be the during the time period of February 29 through March 11. ISTEP part 2/CCRA (College &Career Ready Assessment) testing done online during the time period of April 18 through May 6. NBE normally tries to get the testing done in the beginning of the time period and more so in the morning so that make-up’s can be done later in that date timeline. As the time gets closer, teachers will send out detailed dates and information to parents.
The Indiana Department of Education has provided parents with some information concerning the testing at the link below:
http://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/istep-grades-3-8
Teachers will be providing students the opportunity to go online to learn about the new ISTEP/CCRA assessment. Below is the link for you and your child to look over in your home and will give you a chance to see some types of questions that will be on the assessment.

3rd grade parents only – IREAD3 testing will occur on March 14 through March 18. Attendance during these days is very important; please make every attempt to reschedule dentist/doctor appointments around the test dates.
Here are just a few tips for a good start to every morning and they also make for an even better testing situation:
- Get a good night’s sleep. This is important every night!!!
- A good morning at home makes for a good morning at school.
- Eat a good healthy breakfast.
- Wear comfortable clothes.
- Talk to your students about the test in advance not just the week of the test. Remind them to give their best effort today and everyday. This test is important, but too much stress can be a problem also.
- Encourage your student to listen to the teacher for directions.
- Remind your student that they can figure out tough questions that they have the grit and perseverance to figure it out.
- Encourage your student to think positively – they can do this!!!
- Smile J and tell a funny joke – laughing is good for everyone.
Thanks for your help.

Message from the PTO regarding this week's Dine to Donate event at Wings, Etc.
First, we would like to say a BIG THANKS for all of you that came out or that tried to come out to our dining event. That night Wings Etc. had staff issues that made them unable to handle all of our NBE families. Because of this, Wings Etc. has doubled the amount of money we raised. Also, the owner of Wings Etc. sent the following apology in hopes we will give them another try. NBE is blessed to have such supportive families and we hope you will come out to our next dining event on February 23rd at Texas Roadhouse.
Dear Families of New Britton Elementary,
Thank you for coming out to the dine to donate event on Tuesday 1/26/2015 at our restaurant, Wings Etc. I would like to personally apologize for the lack of service that you may have received. We were understaffed for the amount of guests that turned out. We are addressing the situation to improve service. We welcome any emails from people who were at the dine to donate to discuss further. Please don't hesitate to email me at gniedbalski@comcast.net. Again, I thank you for coming out to support New Britton Elementary School and I hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you in the future.
Sincerely,
Chris and Gloria Niedbalski
After School Enrichment Week is February 22nd – 25th!
Hello, New Britton Volunteers! After School Enrichment Week is set for Feb 22nd - 25th this year. This is a 4 day after-school event from 3:45-5:00 where students can enroll in a variety of classes that are fun and educational. We are now in the planning stages and need to find parent or teacher volunteers to lead our classes. All you need is a love for teaching a topic you're interested in and a criminal background check on file. Help will be provided in setting up a fun and educational class, which can be geared towards all grades, K-2 only, or 2-4 only. Class sizes can be set to best accommodate the activity. Call or text Kelly Mason at 457-0312 or email at mkmason@sbcglobal.net. Please contact Kelly by Jan 31st. Assistants will be recruited once the lead teachers have been set in place. Thanks!
