A Weekly Look at Grant School & the Grant PTA
Week of December 5th
Note from Ms. Saranya
Dear Grant Families,
Hope you are all doing well. Our scholars have shown such patience and flexibility with all of our indoor lunches and recesses this week. We also did our behavior rotations last week and were featured in our PCS newsletter!
I want to take this time to let you know we had a minor deer situation on our campus this morning. There were a few deer on our field this morning prior to recess. I proceeded to call a low level lockdown for about 5 minutes. A low level or level 1 lockdown means business continues as usual (keep teaching and learning) but everyone must stay inside with doors/windows closed. Mr. Lal supported with clearing the deer off campus. Once the campus was secure, we were able to resume recess!
I also want to highlight that 12/22 is a minimum day which means the whole school will dismiss at 12 pm. The PCS calendar does not reflect this and I have reached out to the District Office to let them know. However, we are following our PCS Bell Schedule and I have confirmed that it is a noon dismissal, so please put this on your calendar!
Updates:
Holiday Shoppe
Labels were sent home with an envelope and instructions last week. If it wasn’t received please check in with your teacher. On shopping day, students should come with their to/from labels filled out and spending money to purchase gifts which range from $2-5. Scholarships are available (even last minute) if you contact Jessica. Her email is jtorliatt@me.com and her cell is 707-695-2786. We are also looking for 2-4 more volunteers on Thursday so if you can support please email Laurice at LauriceLevine@gmail.com. You can see when your class is slated to attend here.
Construction at Grant Park
When I spoke with the Parks Team a few weeks ago, they let me know that equipment would be shipped out on 12/15 and installation would begin 12/19. They are aware that our families use that entrance and they said they would do their best to ensure minimal disruption. I will keep you updated as I hear from them.
TK/K Night for New Families 12/12 6-7
Let your family and friends who have incoming TK/K students know to join us at Grant from 6-7 on 12/12. This will be an opportunity for prospective families to meet the teachers and learn about our community and our TK/K program. Priority registration is January 9th - February 28th. :)
Spelling Bee for Grades 4-6 Coming Soon!
If you have a student in Grades 4-6, please be on the lookout for communication from your teacher regarding the Spelling Bee.
Best,
Ms. Saranya

REMINDERS FOR A HEALTHY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Petaluma City Schools is a community and minimizing the risk of COVID-19 in the school environment is a shared responsibility. Here are some general tips that are very helpful to keeping our students and schools safe:
- Check your household and your child each morning for signs of illness.
- Do NOT send your student to school if they exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Contact your healthcare provider immediately to discuss testing for appropriate household members.
- Teach proper hand hygiene, avoiding contact with eyes, nose, and mouth, and covering coughs and sneezes.
- Teach your child not to comment or make assumptions regarding someone’s beliefs or health status based upon their choice to wear or not wear a mask.
- Talk to your child about precautions to take at school to keep themselves and others safe.
