Volunteer Orientation and Training - Monday, 2/7

Several of our grade-level teams are making plans for a field trip in the next few months! In order to be eligible to assist, volunteers must meet certain requirements. In can take several weeks to meet all of the criteria. To learn more and to get started on the process to becoming a GLC volunteer, attend our orientation and training on Monday, February 7, from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on Zoom. Please note that this session will be in English. Another session will be scheduled soon for Spanish.

Families of 6th Grade Students

Recently, you received a letter sharing your middle school options for 2022-23. The letter provided you with your child's middle school of residence, information regarding transfer requests, and opportunities to learn more about GLC's middle school program. Along with your letter, you received a Middle School Choice Form. Please return this form to our office OR complete this Google form by Friday, February 11th.

Families of 8th Grade Students

Did you know your child has many options for high school? In addition to your high school of residence, there are Linked Learning Academies, College Technical Education (CTE) pathways, and charter high schools. Attend one of GLC's High School Information Sessions to learn more. Dates and times are:
  • Wednesday, February 9 - 5:30-6:15 (Zoom, English)
  • Thursday, February 10 - 5:30-6:15 (Zoom, Spanish)

The Zoom link will be sent to 8th grade families via Blackboard and ClassTag the evening before the event. Note that applications for Linked Learning Academies are due Friday, February 25th.

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic - Friday, 2/11

We will be holding our second COVID-19 vaccine clinic this Friday, February 11, from 2:00-7:00 p.m. This clinic is for all VUSD students and families. For participants who attended our first clinic, this is a great opportunity to receive your second dose. However, first, second, and booster doses are all available. Look out for more information soon regarding how to register.

Elementary Track and Field (Gr 3-6)

Track season is almost here! Track & Field will begin Tuesday, March 1. It is for students in grades 3-6. A bridge program will provide supervision for 3rd-grade students from 2:15-3:10 p.m. Track permission slips have been provided to teachers, and additional copies are available in the front office. Completed permission slips are due to the office no later than February 18th.

Safety First During Drop-off and Pick-up

Please be sure that you are following all traffic rules during drop-off and pick-up times, as well as making safe decisions for your child as well as others. We have had incidents of families double-parking, parking on the wrong side of the street, and having students cross without a cross-walk or adult. This has especially been a problem at our Kindergarten gate on N. Quail Dr. When picking up or dropping off at our Kindergarten gate, be sure to park appropriately.

Open Enrollment Closes THIS Friday!

Open enrollment for the 2022-23 school year closes this Friday. Current families with incoming kindergartners MUST complete an Enrollment Request Form for their child. After Open Enrollment, new applicants will be placed on a waiting list if no seats are available.

If you know of other families interested in attending GLC, please encourage them to complete their Enrollment Request forms during the Open Enrollment period for the best chance of admission.
