Field Trip to Houma
Our third graders had an exciting day on Friday, traveling to Houma to see the replica ships of the Nina and the Pinta. It is difficult for any of us to imagine crossing the Atlantic Ocean in such small, unsophisticated ships, and this experience will hopefully give our students a better appreciation for the challenges that Christopher Columbus and his crew faced in the 15th century. It was great having so many of our parents and grandparents join us on the trip, and for those of you who rode with us on the bus, it most likely provided you too with a better appreciation of the luxury of owning a car.
Grandparents Day!
The children are now all in the holiday spirit and have been practicing some special songs to sing tomorrow at Grandparents' / Special Friends' Day. They are excited to welcome their visitors to school. Please make sure your child's guests received their invitation and are planning to attend. The program will begin at 10:30 in the Salem Theatre, with a reception following in our classrooms. The students are asked to wear their Sunday best or their dress uniform to school, but they may bring their uniform to change into once our guests have left.
Book Fair
This week is our annual Winter Book Fair. The students will be visiting the Book Fair with their class. Mrs. Armstrong's class had their scheduled visit this afternoon, and Mrs, Ruiz's class will visit on Wednesday from 2:00-2:20. All parents are invited to join their child's class during their scheduled visit. The Book Fair will also be open on Grandparents' Day, and visitors are welcome to take their grandchild to the Book Fair during our class reception as well. For those parents and family members who are not able to make it to school during the day, Family Night is this Wednesday, December. 10th, and the Book Fair will be open until 7:00 p.m.
Walk-a-thon
We have now collected all of our pledge money from our Walk-a-thon and are excited to be able to present a very generous check in the amount of $3,466.64 to the American Red Cross. We are so proud of our students and so appreciative of all the support from their families and friends. We will present our check to the American Red Cross next Monday, December. 15th at 9:00 a.m. during a special ceremony. The students are asked to wear their Walk-a-thon t-shirts to school next Monday with a uniform short or pant for the presentation. Thank you again for all your support and generosity.
Have a wonderful week, and we look forward to meeting y child's grandparents and special
friends tomorrow.
