Welcome Back Newsletter - 7/30/2021

Big picture

Welcome Back to Thinking About School!

On August 23rd, MPMS will be starting our 2021-2022 school year - 5 days a week in person for all students!

Student schedules will be ready on Monday, August 16. Please be patient as we work to doublecheck the schedule of every student to ensure it is correct. If counselors have an individual question about a student's course request, they will be reaching out in the next two weeks.

This newsletter has a couple action items in it - please make sure to review and complete the following:

1. Parents - please make sure to have a working email address in PowerSchool and update all other personal information through the returning student online data verification (formerly known as INFOSnap)

2. 7th Graders only - make sure your Tdap/MenACWY vaccination records are turned in! Your student CANNOT attend school without complete Tdap/MenACWY vaccination records turned in to Nurse Vonvital.

4. MP Device check - please check it is working and schedule a repair or pickup if needed. We are running repairs throughout August - make sure it is 100% ready for the start of school!

5. 6th Grade Home Visits will be between 5-7 pm on Monday, August 16!

6. 6th and 7th Grade Orientation (for those who have not been inside MPMS)

7. Open House Information

8. Supply Lists

9. Information about Middle School Athletics

1. All Parents Must Complete: PowerSchool Enrollment Returning Student Online Data Verification

PowerSchool Enrollment

Returning Student Online Data Verification is open.

Parents of returning students must access the PowerSchool Enrollment online forms through the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://mpark.powerschool.com . The online forms contain demographic and emergency information you entered last year. During this process, you will verify the information is accurate or update any information that has changed. Parents will also electronically sign annual agreement forms for school district policies.

At least one parent is required to create a PowerSchool Parent Portal account. If you have multiple children in Manassas Park City Schools, you must verify information for each student, however only one parent account is necessary.

  • If you have created a PowerSchool Parent Portal account in a previous school year, please use that account to log in. Please do not create a new account.
  • If you have not created a PowerSchool parent account, directions can be found at http://www.mpark.net/parents/directions-for-parent-portal.

If you have questions about your account, please contact your child’s school for assistance.

In preparation for the June opening and to make the process as smooth as possible, please login to verify your existing PowerSchool Parent Portal account or create a new PowerSchool Parent Portal account if not already created prior to the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

1a. Parents are our Partners - Update Your Info!

Every year, parents are our partners in the education of their children. Please help us by ensuring that your contact information on PowerSchool is accurate and complete.

If you do not have an email address, please set one up, as email is the most commonly used communication tool for Canvas announcements and teacher updates. Any gmail, yahoo, msn, mail.com, etc. address will work. Just set it up, put it into PowerSchool's parent portal, and check it to stay up to date on what is going on at MPMS with your child.

We greatly appreciate your help and want to keep you informed! Together we will make remote learning work for your child.

2. 2021-2022 7th Graders - Must have for the fall!

Rising 7th graders - Effective July 1, 2019, a booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis containing (Tdap) vaccine is required for all children entering the 7th grade. Effective July 1, 2021, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and a dose of Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY) vaccine are also required for all children entering the 7th grade. Schools will require proof of immunization or a documented exemption before a student may begin 7th grade classes.

Schools require proof of immunization or a documented exemption before a student may begin 7th grade classes.

***The nurse can start accepting student chronic health condition emergency medical plans and medications Starting August 11th.

Once you take your child for their annual physical, bring your Tdap/MenACWY vaccination record to MPMS before school returns in August! These vaccinations can be given by a pediatrician, health clinics (such as the MAP Clinic, Urgent Care, or other clinics,) or many pharmacies! (Such as Walgreens or CVS.)

****If you do not have your vaccination records on file, you will not be able to attend school.****

3. Get your MP Device Ready for the School year NOW!
