Important Message For Flexible Spending and Dependent Care Account Holders
Current Accountholders,
As part of the governmental response to COVID-19, the IRS announced that it is permitting increased flexibility under Section 125 Plans during calendar year 2020 for healthcare flexible spending arrangements (Healthcare FSAs), and Dependent Care Accounts (DCA), where applicable.
Employers may permit employees to:
- Revoke an election, make a new election, or decrease or increase an existing election applicable to a Healthcare FSAs on a prospective basis; any decrease in election mid-year will be limited to amounts no less than previously reimbursed
- Revoke an election, make a new election, or decrease or increase an existing election regarding DCAs on a prospective basis (where applicable).
In addition, the IRS guidance also increased flexibility for grace periods and unused amounts in Health care FSAs and DCAs. A Section 125 Plan may permit employees to apply those unused amounts to reimburse eligible medical expenses incurred through December 31, 2020. The original grace period was November 30, 2020.
Please note that both the FSA and DCA are "use it or lose it" accounts and cannot be refunded if not used.
Please email me at hsherrard@galenaparkisd.com soonest if you wish to cancel or change your current FSA and/or DCA contributions.
Kind Regards,
Holli L. Sherrard

STRIVE SUMMATIVE TIP
Attention Supervisors
- If an employee does not see their goals in Strive and they were there earlier in the year, that is an indication that they did not move them to the evaluation tab. The goal tab no longer exist. No worries, the goals can be seen in the summative document.
- When you are in the summative document, the right column will be the framework for the appraisal instrument assigned to the employee.
In the example below, you can see the framework for T-TESS Opt Out teacher.
Click on the All icon to see related items under each framework.
Including:
- Goals (if goals are tied to that framework title, example: Planning)
- Documents (if documents were uploaded)
- Professional Development completed for that framework
- Walk-through items if tied to a teacher in the selected framework
- Viewing the items that are collapsed under the All icon will make completing summatives much easier. No more going back and forth to goals and professional development.
