- I LOVE this math unit. I get to see so many students grow and gain confidence in their math thinking. This unit highlights various ways to think about and model multiplication. You can help your child at home by having them model and explain their thinking to you. I will do my best to make sure that you have tools that also help you understand what we are doing in class. I know that it looks VERY different from what most of us learned in school, but trust me when I say that your child will understand the concepts better than most of us did.
- Today we focused on the layers of the forest and we discussed what would happen if one of the layers disappeared. We are going to continue to discuss the impacts and dangers that affect the forest.

In reading, we are beginning to work on a pair of non-fiction texts about the history of candy in our StoryWorks magazine. We’ll be comparing and contrasting the articles as well as summarizing the text. I have put off starting our first Reader’s Workshop with books until I finish testing the students to determine their reading levels. I hope to begin the workshop next week.
In writing, students are finishing rough drafts of their narrative. We are moving into the revising/editing stage of the writing process, looking at our writing through “different lenses” in order to improve our work. We will be using our new Go Tahoma accounts to type up our final drafts starting this week. We will wrap up the unit with a district-wide assessment, most likely next week.
