Leadership Synthesization
By: Drew Y.
What defines a leader?
A leader is someone who can delegate, communicate, and get others to follow and support them. Many leaders are eloquent, such as Hitler. Hitler was so eloquent that even though he was fighting for a poor cause he gained many followers in a matter of years.*
*Just because I think he was a good leader doesn't mean I think he had wisdom or that anyone should follow him.
What type of leader am I?
I am not a very good leader. While a lot of times I could lead, many people don't want to follow me. I do have many of the traits that leaders have, though. For example, I am/usually am: communicative, visionary, delegative, understanding, empathetic, among others.
How does my personality style affect my leadership style and vice versa?
My personality can affect my leadership style in many ways. Because I can be shy, others can be much more communicative and eloquent than I. I am also a "feeling" person, so I can sometimes empathize for others, which can make my leadership style better. My leadership style can also help grow these traits and some others, so it's a back-and-forth process, kind of like a pinball bumping back and forth between bumpers, each bumper directly affecting the other when they bounce the pinball back and forth.
What did I learn about myself that I can use to grow as a leader?
I learned that I can be a lot more feeling than I thought. I didn't realize I could empathize so much with other people. Empathy is one of the major traits that leaders need to have. If they don't, then they can't know when they are pushing their followers too hard. I need to make that a bigger aspect of my personality, but also sensing. According to the survey, I do not sense much. I need to focus on that, too. If I can sense and feel more, I will grow to become a much better leader than I already am.
