FMS Counseling: Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Horstmeier & Ms. Jo
We are so excited to have everyone here at FMS! We hope everyone had a great summer.
Needing to see the counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chromebooks by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. If you have any questions or need help finding the form refer to the email that was sent today (Friday) from Mrs. Horstmeier. You can also ask your teacher for help. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time.
OLSAT Testing
Looking forward into September we will be testing 6th grade student using a group IQ test called OLSAT. This assessment identifies a student rough verbal and non verbal intelligence. We use this to help identify students who may qualify for project extra.
Career Lessons
Also in September we are looking forward to starting to go into 6th and 7th grade social studies classes to do career lessons. For more information please contact Mrs. Crawford.
Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:

Mrs. Blandford and Ms. Neudecker
We are so excited to see you all in the band program this year! There are going to be so many exciting things!
6th Grade Band:
There are a few things that you are going to need to know for the next couple of weeks. The first thing that you need to know about is the band handbook. The handbook outlines things that pertain to grading, concerts and equipment needed for band throughout the entire year. We encourage you to go over this handbook with your student so that you all know what is expected out of students in the Fulton Hornet Band program. There is an acknowledgement form that was sent home with your child. This needs to be filled out and sent back to school on before the end of the day on Friday, August 24.
The next thing that will be helpful in the next week is information about instrument rental night. This will take place Tuesday, August 21 at 6:00 PM in the FMS gym. Your student will need to have an instrument, a book and a care kit for their respective instruments for the year. An email was send home with flyers, please refer to the email for any other questions about instrument rental night.
Throughout the year I will post things on google classroom as well as through email. Please check your emails frequently.
7th Grade Band:
Here is to another exciting year in band! This is the cool part, you don't have to purchase anything new this year. No new books, no instrument.....doesn't it feel good? But there are a few changes that I would like to highlight for the upcoming year as well as a couple of reminders.
The first change is there is no longer an October concert for the 7th grade band. The first performance of the 7th grade band will take place in November, and it will be a Veteran's Day performance at the middle school during the day.
Also, 7th grade band will now go to contest as a group to Central Methodist University with the 8th grade band. This is something that we have not done before and we are very excited to add this extra opportunity for 7th grade band.
The only reminder that I have for you all right now is the band handbook. Please make sure you read over this with your child (they have it on google classroom) and sign the acknowledgement form and send it back by Friday, August 24.
8th Grade Band:
Welcome back and let's hit the ground running. There are couple of things that are new and then there are a few reminders.
The first new thing is the fact that 8th grade band has their own uniform that needs to be purchased for the year. I have send home a polo order form with your student. These order forms are due back to me Friday, August 24. Please do not send money, the money will be due when the shirts arrive. Also, be aware that your child will need khaki pants and black dress shoes for concert band season, they will need those two items before December.
The second new things is MARCHING BAND! The 8th grade band will march in the homecoming parade on September 28 right after school. After the parade they will get a break and then they will come to the high school and march homecoming with the high school band and stay for the first half of the game to watch half time. I will send more information out about that as the time comes closer.
The only reminder I have is that the band handbook in on google classroom, we have go over it in class as well. Please read over it with your student and send back the signed acknowledgement form by Friday, August 24.
7/8 Wire Choir:
7th and 8th grade guitar will be purchasing Wire Choir T-shirts for all of our concerts. An order form will be sent home Monday. The order forms will need to be turned back into me by Friday, August 24.
Feel free to contact us with any questions at sblandford@fulton58.org or kjneudecker@fulton58.org.

News From The Art Room...
Greetings and welcome back to another fantastic school year here at Fulton Middle School! I am super excited to get to know and work with all the new sixth graders as well as our returning students during the 2018-2019 year ahead.
Each week I will be talking about what students are working on, and content regarding that work. My goal this year is to work more in depth with students to tap into their creative core, and for them to have a fuller and richer understanding of the content. With our new grading system, I feel we will be experiencing the same fun lessons and adding more meaning for them, as well as adding more student ownership, and accountability in their visual education. While this is a journey we will take together, I am super excited to see them tap into their own creative potential, and deepen the level of visual literacy and creativeness. They will also gain a wide array of creative problem solving skills, and learn how to negotiate challenges and frustrations. I hope to introduce critique, and positive feedback this year, and have students take a more individualized role in the classroom.
We will explore many ideas, and artistic avenues and we will be pushing some of our projects we do together a lot further in focus than we have in the past. We will also be doing more exploratory projects and techniques to build skills for certain projects.
Again, I can’t express how excited I am to get underway, and make all the new connections, and build great relationships with all the new and returning students here at FMS.
If you need anything or have any questions don’t hesitate in contacting me at cchapman@fulton58.org
Artfully yours!

The FMS Thrive Hive
The Fulton Middle School Thrive Hive opened for business on Monday, August 21st. The store is open 7:30 to 7:45 each morning. If students aren't able to shop then they can email Mrs. Horstmeier @ shortmeier@fulton58.org or Mrs. Yates @ hyates@fulton58.org for an appointment to shop.
The Thrive Hive is designed to allow students to use their Hornet Bucks--earned through the Positive Behavior Support Program--to purchase items from the store. The Thrive Hive was created to help the needs of the FMS Student Community.
Items currently needed for the store are:
Any age appropriate toys, DVD's for the holidays.
As we gear up for winter: Hats, gloves, scarves, and coats.
Snack items: Slim jims, and pop tarts.
Other needs are ear buds and water bottles.
We will be gearing up for the holiday season so baskets to make gift packages for students to purchase would be great.
All other items are appreciated as well.
If you would like to donate, please call Fulton Middle School at 573-590-8200.
