Lunch will be provided for all students. Chick Fil A sandwiches, chips, cookie, PB&J. All students are welcome to bring their own lunch, or bring additional snacks to eat as well.

Dear Winter Park Band families,

Another nice performance from the SOTW at Edgewater HS this past Friday evening! Both Mr. Smith and myself are looking forward to some productive rehearsals this week, and, if the weather cooperates, finishing putting the show on the field!

PARENT VOLUNTEERS: Firstly, an enormous THANK YOU to all of our parent volunteers who have helped out in ways big and small already this school year. To all Band parents - WE NEED YOUR HELP! Each function the Band rehearses for, performs at, fundraises for, participates in, etc., requires parent volunteers generously giving their time and talents to provide the best experience for our students possible. If you haven't been able to volunteer yet this school year, I encourage you to look ahead on our schedule over the next couple weeks and find an opportunity when you are available to assist. If you have already volunteered, please help again and take as many opportunities as your schedule allows. Thank you again, and I look forward to seeing many of you over the coming weeks!

All-County Band and Jazz audition requirements and contracts will be dispersed to students this coming week. Please look ahead on our Band calendar for the dates of both the All-County Band festival and the All-County Jazz festival. Auditions for both All-County Band and Jazz will take place on Monday, November 18, at Apopka High School.

Please keep your eyes looking ahead on the Band calendar to be sure all Band events are on your family's calendar. As explained in the Band Handbook and on the Band Handbook Acknowledgement Form, attendance is expected at all Band events throughout the school year. Please Especially take note of the upcoming dates here and later in the newsletter:

  • September 28 - Fall Marching Band Mini-Camp, 9 AM - 5 PM (lunch provided)
  • October 2 - Homecoming Parade and "Roar," 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM
  • October 3 - FALL BAND CONCERT

Thank you to all who helped for the Edgewater game!

For this week, we are still short volunteers for the away game (only 3 chaperones have signed up, and we need 10), so please sign up to help. We are required to have certain ratios of adults to students.

For band mini-camp (this Saturday, 9/28), we will need help serving lunch, so please come to the West Cafeteria at 11:30 am to help with set up, serving, and clean up. Things should be wrapped up by 1:30 pm. All are welcome to help.

For homecoming week (week of September 30), we still need LOTS of volunteers. This is how you can help:

· Chaperone parade on 10/2 –sign up spots on Charms calendar

· Help with set up or clean up for the anniversary concert on 10/3 (we have a reception after the concert, and this year will include special decorations, etc.)-sign up spots on Charms calendar

· Bring desserts for the reception after concert on 10/3 (no sign up, just drop by 6:45 p.m. on concert day in the auditorium lobby-suggested items: cookies, donuts, rice crispy treats, brownies-individual pieces-platters should be picked up after concert if you would like them back, as they cannot be stored)

· Chaperone the homecoming game on 10/4 –sign up spots on Charms calendar

All marching band seniors-please send baby picture to no later than 9/27 (it is for Senior Night, which will be 10/17)-if you did not receive the email about this, please contact me at for details.

The deadline to get supporters is fast approaching! Spread the word to support the Winter Park Band!

This year, in addition to selling the traditional Coupon Books, the Band will be offering a "Ready, Set, FUNd" fundraiser. This fundraiser is slightly different than the past, but has the potential for the students to raise a significant amount of money for the Band program!
