GIFTED AND TALENTED RESOURCES FOR PARENTS
Dear Parents,
What Is Gifted? According with the National Association for Gifted Children, "Gifted individuals are those who demonstrate outstanding levels of aptitude (defined as an exceptional ability to reason and learn) or competence (documented performance or achievement in top 10% or rarer) in one or more domains. Domains include any structured area of activity with its own symbol system (e.g., mathematics, music, language) and/or set of sensorimotor skills (e.g., painting, dance, sports)."
The National Association for Gifted Children has researched on the interaction of cognitive, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical impacts on gifted children. Using that data, they came up with six distinct types of gifted child:
- The Successful
- The Challenging
- The Underground
- The Angry
- The Twice-Exceptional
- The Autonomous Learner
Your child is gifted. Educating gifted children is unique because they have special gifts. We would like to share with you some Gifted and Talented articles and resources to help you understand and support your child.
Learn more about each of the types of gifted children in the next weeks.

The 9 Types of Intelligence By Howard Gardner Frames of Mind
Multiple Intelligences are the set of nine distinct intelligences identified by Howard Gardner. Students possess different kinds of minds and therefore learn, remember, perform, and understand in different ways, according to Gardner (1991).
According to this theory, "we are all able to know the world through language, logical-mathematical analysis, spatial representation, musical thinking, the use of the body to solve problems or to make things, an understanding of other individuals, and an understanding of ourselves. Where individuals differ in the strength of these intelligences - the so-called profile of intelligences -and in the ways in which such intelligences are invoked and combined to carry out different tasks, solve diverse problems, and progress in various domains."
The learning styles are Visual-Spatial, Bodily-kinesthetic, Musical, Existential, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalistic, Linguistic, Logical -Mathematical
