Oceanport Charges Ahead
From the Desk of Ms. Lipinski ~ October 2018
Physical and Social-Emotional Safety
We hope you and your child(ren) have had a successful start to the 2018-19 school year, and we thank you for your continued support and communication with us as a school district. Our academic and instructional endeavors are of major significance, and perhaps the most important factors that create such a positive learning environment are the physical and emotional safety and health of our students and the entire school community. At Maple Place and Wolf Hill, we strive to reach and teach each student skills and strategies to prevent bullying, cope with adverse situations, and report anything that just doesn’t seem to be “right.” We need your help in communicating the same positive messages to our students so they see that we are working together to support them as a united team.
If you ever have a question regarding your child’s social/emotional well-being or would like more support in this area, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the classroom teacher or our school guidance counselors, Mrs. Bonett (mbonett@oceanport.k12.nj.us ) or Ms. Gilsey (agilsey@oceanport.k12.nj.us). They can help lead you in the right direction or offer your some immediate strategies. Mrs. Malaney (lmalaney@ocanport.k12.nj.us), our new Special Services Supervisor, could also offer the support and intervention of the child study team if needed.
Please help us remind everyone, students and adults, “If you hear something or see something, say something.” When you report to our schools at the main entrances, have your driver’s license with you to be screened by our newest visitor management system, the Raptor. Every new guest to our building will be screened. Remember not to hold doors open for anyone else behind you for security purposes. Mr. Furlong, our Regional Security Director, and I are certified School Safety Specialists, and we work alongside our School Security Monitors, Mr. Tagerty and Mr. VanBrunt, as well as with the Oceanport and Sea Bright Police Departments, Fire Department, Emergency Management, and First Aid members. As a progressive group that includes administrators, school nurses, staff members, and parent representatives, we meet formally as the Oceanport School District's Emergency Management Team. We have had several recent upgrades in the area of safety & security, and we are proud of our dedicated work to maintain the well-being and safety of all of our students.
I hope you can join me for our first OP Parent Academy Night on November 5th at 6PM in the Maple Place Library to learn more about Anti-Bullying and Positive Behavioral Supports in our schools!
Educationally yours,
Ms. Lipinski
