NEW - Kindergarten to 4th Grade Writing Resources!
Lucy Calkins - NEW Units of Study for Teaching Writing
Building upon systemic best practices and proven research by the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) at Columbia University, this new series offers grade-by-grade plans for teaching the elements of the writing process through the Writing Workshop approach as part of a balanced literacy framework.
This series promotes responsive, data-based instruction which includes: oral and written conventions, authentic student writing samples and exemplars, analytic assessment rubrics and learning progressions, while supporting and encouraging the love of writing.
Differentiation elements include: online Spanish resources, ELL supports, interventions, extensions, web-based resources, anchor chart models, and trade book packs with sample mentor texts.
Lesson plans follow the Writing Workshop Model through all elements of the writing process and provide teachers with embedded professional learning and links for online training videos.
**Ordering is in progress --- we will notify campuses of anticipated delivery dates, as soon as we know more information.**

What about the KISD Literacy Institute???
The KISD Literacy Institute, featuring Abydos writing strategies, supports and compliments the New Units of Study in Writing and is highly encouraged!
The 12-day Summer Literacy Institute is underway and provides participants with the foundational background and strategies of the writing process that will help put the Units of Study into practice. Participants will experience authentic reading and writing opportunities, which can build confidence and foster growth regardless of the participants' writing skill level.
Although the Fall Institute has been postponed for now due to uncertainties with our Title funding, we do plan to hold another institute next summer!
