Here's what's happening in MS this week!

ENGLISH
6th Grade: We will have an in class spelling bee in Monday to determine which students go on to the school spelling bee on Wednesday. Please remind your student that every week we have a No Red Ink assignment. The new one is open today starting at 3 and is due Friday.

8th Grade: We are starting chapter 8 in our grammar book. Chapter 8 focuses on verbs. We will learn about linking verbs, irregular verbs, verb tenses, active and passive voice, participles, gerunds, and infinitives. We will continue reading Soul Surfer. Also, I am currently missing 74 books from my classroom library. If you happen to see any books with my name on them, please send them back to school. Thank you.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We are analyzing populations in different countries by using population graphs called population pyramids. We will be exploring how countries meet the needs of their population. There is a quiz on Wednesday on Population Vocabulary list 2 that is listed in Google Classroom. They will also be quizzed on how to interpret a population graph.

MATH
6th Grade: We have been learning about the GCF and the LCM of numbers. We will have a quiz over this lesson early on Wednesday. iReady is 45 minutes per week. Please continue to check powerschool for missing work.
7th Grade: We have been learning how to solve problems using percents. We will have a quiz this week over the lesson. iReady is 45 minutes per week. Please continue to check powerschool for missing work.
8th Grade: We have been learning about the slope intercept form of an equation. We will have a quiz on Tuesday covering the lesson. iReady is 45 minutes per week. Please continue to check powerschool for missing work.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We have been learning about elements and how they can combine to form compounds. Next week we will be looking at what element is found in all living things. We will also be discussing the different states of matter.
7th Grade: We had our quiz on Introduction to Cells on Wednesday. The students are now exploring cell membrane structure and function by testing how different materials cross the cell membrane using an egg. We will be taking an overview of the different structures of the cell.

ART
7th Grade: We will be doing a shoe painting and then working on clay project that will most likely be a squirrel. If any of you have newspapers that you would like to donate to the art program we need some. Thank you for your support of the arts at Ellsworth.
MUSIC
6th Grade: 6th graders are working through yellow book. We just got to numbers 60 and 61. Students should continue working at home and filling out practice sheets.
7th/8th Grade: 7th and 8th are working on band festival music. The date for festival has not been finalized, but will either be February 22nd or 29th (Both Saturdays)
PE
8th Grade: Students had another excellent week in the gymnasium. I’m so impressed with their conduct, sportsmanship, and their positive interaction with each other. They also made tremendous improvement in throwing and catching a football.
Students will begin charting health related physical fitness activities (skip rope, front forearm plank, push-ups, and sit-ups). The goal is to show improvement over the next 7 weeks. They will also participate in another week of invasion games that focus on defending space, creating space, and transitioning between offense and defense.
