APS Summer Academy High School
Target 2021 Summer Academy Support
Attention Target 2021 Students and Parents!!!
Have you signed up for the APS Summer Academy? The Office of High Schools strongly encourages Summer Academy participation for students who fail a course during the school year. Recovering courses during the summer provides the best opportunity to stay on track in earning credits for graduation and allows flexibility and choice in course selection during the school year. High School Summer Academy will be offered for Atlanta Public Schools students who need to recover credits for courses they failed during the school year. Summer Academy is offered June 1 -30, 2016. Classes will be taught by highly qualified Atlanta Public Schools teachers and will be held Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm.
Current 8th/rising 9th graders will attend Summer Academy at their feeder high school site. For more information about the High School Summer Academy program, please contact the APS Office of High Schools.
Please consider the following when registering for Summer Academy: Good attendance is an absolute necessity during Summer Academy. Students are expected to be in class each day on time. In order to receive credit, students must attend 16 of the 18 instructional days. Camps, vacations and work do not excuse absences during Summer Academy. Appropriate behavior is expected at all times. Students who fail to comply with expectations may be removed from Summer Academy. Atlanta Public Schools transportation is available. Enrollment is limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. To receive priority enrollment, registration forms are due April 22, 2016. Enrollment forms received after this date up to April 29, 2016 will be considered, but there is no guarantee of enrollment. All students are offered breakfast and lunch through Summer Academy participation. Individual class schedules will be created based on student needs and will be distributed on the first day of Summer Academy. Students may request specific courses, however, counselors and administration reserve the right to place students in courses based upon section availability and area of highest student need. Courses are offered for credit recovery purposes only. Students may not take courses in Summer Academy that they have not previously failed at least once. World Languages, Health and Physical Education courses will only be offered to seniors for graduation requirements and juniors for promotion If you have questions about High School Summer Academy, feel free to contact Dr. Isaac Sparks, Jr., Regional Executive Administrator, at (404) 802-2307 or by email isparks@atlanta.k12.ga.us . School counselors can also answer any questions regarding credit status or choosing courses for recovery.
