Happy Valentine's Day and President's Day
We welcomed 4th and 5th grade A/B students back in the building. It was wonderful seeing the building filling up with more smiling faces. Overall, the week went rather smoothly given the weather.
Reminder: 4th and 5th Grade students in building schedule
Group A students are Mondays and Tuesdays only. 8:45 Arrival and 2:30 dismissal.
Group B Students are Thursdays and Fridays only. 8:45 Arrival and 2:30 dismissal.
* Feb. 15: No School President's Day
* Feb. 17: Reading and Math night will be held Feb. 17th from 6:00-7:30. Math and Reading teachers will be posting grade level Zoom links. We will send out a reminder flyer with all the zoom links attached as well. We will be giving away a $25 Walmart gift card for participating and completing the survey. Please sign-in on each zoom meeting in the virtual chat and complete the title I survey at the end of the night to be eligible. See flyer below.
* Picture Days scheduled: Flyers will be coming soon for scheduling
Day 1 – 3/16, 9am start, In School Students Group A
Day 2 – 3/19, 9am start, In School Students Group B and absent makeups
Day 3 – 4/7, 9am start, Virtual students by appointment and additional absent make-ups.
* Concerns about "snow days" being asynchronous
Please remember that students are required by law to attend school 180 days each year. By having students complete asynchronous work on these snow days, we will not need to add additional days to the calendar in June to meet this requirement; how many of us remember those years when we had to add a full week at the end of the year and take away spring break? This will avoid those changes to the school calendar. Please be reminded that all asynchronous work is given three school days before it is due; this means that you have additional time to work with your child if he/she cannot complete it during the regular school day. Keep in mind that having students turn in work is how we are able to count them as attending.
* Car Rider Drop-off and Pick up
- Car rider drop-off is in the staff parking lot loop between 8:45-9:00am for grades 1, 2, 4 and 5, and 10:00-10:15am for PreK, K and 3rd grade.
- Car rider Pick-up from the staff parking lot loop is from 2:30-2:45 for grades 1, 2, 4 and 5, and 3:45- 4:00 for PreK, K and 3rd grade.
* Walkers arrival and dismissal
- Walker should enter through the Academy Street entrance between 8:45-9:00am for grades 1, 2, 4 and 5, and 10:00-10:15am for PreK, K and 3rd grade.
- Walker Dismissal is also from teh Academy Street entrance from 2:30-2:45 for grades 1, 2, 4 and 5, and 3:45- 4:00 for PreK, K and 3rd grade.
* Once buses begin to arrive, do not enter the bus loop as you will be stuck behind buses until they leave. You may park on the street or in the staff parking lot and walk to front of the school. Do not allow students unattended between the buses. The front bus loop is off limits from 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, and 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM. I appreciate you working with us to keep our Falcons safe!
** If you are not receiving phone calls or emails, please reach out to the front office with your most updated information. This way we can change it in the system. 410-479-2761 and ask for Emily Phillips.
Thank you for your continued support of Federalsburg Elementary School! Stay safe during this interesting weather pattern we are experiencing!

Tools and Best Practices for the 2nd Semester...
Posted on February 2, 2021
Caroline students are in-person and virtual learners! First semester has taught everyone a lot, and we want to share tips and best practices learned from both staff and students that will ensure second semester success.
- Learning Area: Students need a well-lighted, quiet place in their home for virtual learning.
- On-Time: Students should be on time and on schedule for in-person, synchronous, and asynchronous days.
- Charger: Devices should be charged for home and school, and kept with the device.
- Devices: Take good care of devices when in class, at home and traveling in between.
- Device cameras: Cameras help greatly with student engagement and connection to teachers and classmates! Try to leave them on as much as possible.
- Headphones: Headphones or earbuds should be kept with devices and ready for use. Students should bring earbuds/headphones to school as well.
- Downloading materials: Best practice is to download materials the day before an asynchronous learning day.
- Google Classroom: Log in just prior to class beginning or resuming.
- Learning materials and books: Keep these with the device for easy access.
- PowerSchool: Families (and students) should check PowerSchool on a regular basis to check attendance, grades, and assignments.
- Email: Students (and families) should check email on a regular basis.
Check with principals and school counselors for more tools and best practices for 2nd Semester Success.

Covid-19 Information
In these difficult times, it’s easy for misinformation to spread. The goal of CCPS is to ensure communication protocols are thorough and transparent, while protecting employee and student privacy. Please remember that we do have a process for advising those identified as close contacts of a person testing positive. These notifications are followed by an email that tells staff and families of a positive COVID-19 case in our building.
This communication process can be found on the CCPS website page Positive Case Reports. This page also includes a weekly report, by building, of any positive cases reported among staff or students. Feel free to share this page with anyone needing accurate, verified information.
