Language Arts
- Winter Reading Challenge: The students have about three more weeks to get their books read by Feb. 14. They needed to read 3 books on Raz-Kids, 2 chapter books, and one non-fiction book. I've been checking in with the students and they are doing great.
- Reading: We read a historical fiction story about the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. Students focused on sequencing and visualizing.
- Writing: We finally got some time to focus on our persuasive letter, most student finessed their rough draft this week.
- Grammar: We worked on possessive nouns and review synonyms and antonyms.
Math
This week students worked on long division with regrouping. They learned how to use place value to determine the placement of the first digit in a quotient, and they practiced checking their quotients with multiplication.
In your child’s Friday folder, you will find an informational letter about Khan Academy. Please read it over, fill out the necessary information, sign, and return by Wednesday, February 1st. If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you!
Social Studies
Social Studies- We took a tour of the Southeast region. We completed a geography challenge, wrote a letter to an imaginary brother back in Enlgand to tell him whether to stay there or come to Jamestown, listened to the different types of music that began in the Southeast, and wrote a poem modeled after a Civil Rights poem about the 1950’s, but made it about the present. They used their books to take an assessment about all that they had learned.
