Completing daily homework assignments a good way to practice the skills we are working on in class. As noted in the beginning of the year, your student's homework should not exceed 30 minutes per night, with the exception of studying for quizzes, tests or completing projects. All assigned homework is due the following school day.
Late Work:
Late work is excepted, however, the student will have to sign the Conduct Binder. All late work should be promptly completed and turned in to the teacher. Late work will NOT be accepted past the quarter it is assigned in.
Spelling Tests:
- Spelling is incorporated into our daily schedule. Your child will be using/practicing the 12 weekly spelling words in class throughout the week in preparation for the test on Friday.
*The only grades that will be reported for spelling each quarter will be their weekly practice packet and the test grade on Friday.
Grammar, Comprehension and Vocabulary Tests:
- Grammar: Each week, students will work on a skill, with 1-2 homework assignment per week. The skill will be tested on Fridays.
- Vocabulary: Five words will be given, practiced and assessed on Friday as a component of the Vocabulary Test
- Word Study: In addition, a word study strategy will be given, practiced and tested as a part of the Vocabulary Test
- Cold Read Comprehension: Students will be given a new passage to apply the reading comprehension skill(s) that have been taught throughout the week to determine if they have reached mastery (80%).
Please note, there will be an additional comprehension test over the story that we are reading in class together throughout the week in addition to the cold read test. The story will be used to introduce and practice the vocabulary/word study and comprehension skills in preparation for the vocabulary/word study application and cold read comprehension tests.
