Spotlight: 7th Grade Science
The 7th grade science classes at Lenape created “Trash to Treasure” projects for the Ecology Unit. Students collaborated to create functional prototype models of an “up-cycled” product using trash. The students used STEM engineering principles to design a solution as well as test and evaluate products. The focus of ecology is to think about human impact on the environment and interactions of living organisms.
Spotlight: 7th Grade ELA
Ms. Venters and Mrs. Love's English classes demonstrated some impressive Hexagonal thinking for their current novel, The Wednesday Wars!

CBSD is Hiring!
Technology Access & Traveling Outside the US
Currently, the Technology and Innovation Department blocks Microsoft Office 365 logins to Outlook, OneDrive, ClassLink, and Canvas from foreign countries. This aids in protecting our CBSD user accounts and organization from malicious computer attacks from outside of the United States.
Students who travel cannot assume their devices will work once they leave the United States. Furthermore, Board Policy 204 requires students exceeding fifteen (15) consecutive days absence, per school year, for family travel will be withdrawn from school. Students can be re-entered upon return. For student out-of-country access requests, please follow this procedure going forward:
Vacation approval must be received from the building administrator to allow access for virtual learning while outside of the United States. Access to technology for short vacations is not approved at this time.

Anxiety Resources
We are noticing an increase in anxiety among our students. Please work with your student’s counselor if you have serious concerns about anxiety and its impact on school. Tamar Chansky’s book is a great resource for parents of an anxious child. In addition, this quick video explains anxiety in a way that is relatable.

Updated Attendance Procedures
The Central Bucks School District will be changing the way in which absences are reported, beginning with the start of this upcoming school year on August 30, 2021. The following items are some key points to be aware of:
- Parents and guardians will be able to submit absence requests via the Parent Portal. Parents can request a full day absence, early dismissal, or late arrival.
- Absence requests will be reviewed by School Attendance Staff and approved or denied.
- Requests made using the Parent Portal will also serve as the excuse for the absence. Parents will not be required to submit an excuse either electronic or written.
- Parents and guardians can also still call the school to report an absence, but emails will no longer be accepted. The lenapeattendance@cbsd.org email address will be discontinued.
In addition, when a student is absent from school, but the school did not receive communication from the parent or guardian, the following communication will be sent:
- A text message will be sent midmorning notifying the parent or guardian of the absence
- An email will also be sent at the end of the school day reminding the parent or guardian that the student was marked absent.
Information regarding how to use the Parent Portal to report an absence can be found here.

Safe2Say
Safe2Say is a valuable resource that has been set up by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide a method for anyone to report a concern about a student or group of students 24/7. Please note some important reminders about the use of Safe2Say:
- If you put in a tip, please check back often for communications. The tip line is monitored 24/7 at the state level. The tip is sent to the school and/or police if it is deemed "Life Safety" immediately. It is sent in the morning if it is determined to be "Non-Life Safety."
- It is important to include as much information as possible. If you have evidence of your concerns, please share that evidence via the tip or with us. You can attach pictures and videos in the Safe2Say system.
Please remember that Safe2Say is statewide system that is used in collaboration with the State Attorney's Office, emergency responders, and school officials. It is important to know that tips are reviewed on the state level before being passed to the local police and/or school authorities. Please consider the purpose of your tip - Is it to provide another person with a way to receive help? Is it preventing an act of violence? Is it something that needs to involve local and state authorities? While the system is anonymous, abuse of the system will not be tolerated and actions will be taken if it is determined that the system is being used inappropriately.
