Mathematics
Following The Progression: a look at the development of fractions, ratios, and proportional reasoning through the grades
This 3 day long course will lead teachers through an in-depth study of how students’ conceptual understanding of fractions, ratios, and proportions develops throughout each grade level. The first two days of the course will focus on how students can build a strong foundation for working with fractions and ratios in the intermediate grades, while the last two days will focus on how a solid understanding of ratios and proportional reasoning sets the foundation for work with linear functions in Algebra. It is recommended that teachers attend all 3 days regardless of what grade level they currently teach. The 2 additional dates will be determined at the first meeting.
This course will challenge and deepen your thinking about fractions, ratios, and proportions. It will also offer you a wealth of rich problems to use immediately in your classrooms, as well as strategies to differentiate for and engage all learners. All content is aligned to the Common Core State Standards as well as the Standards for Mathematical Practice.

Math Daily Three- Book Study
Description:
Math Daily 3 is a framework for structuring math time so students develop deep conceptual understanding and mathematical proficiency.
How does it work?
Students select from three choices, working independently toward personalized goals, while the teacher meets individual needs through whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as one-on-one conferring.
Benefits of using Math Daily 3:
Students develop independence, stamina, and accountability.
The framework adapts to district-adopted curriculum and state mandates.
Teachers are able to meet differentiated needs, helping to ensure that all students meet standards.

Math Number Talks- Book Study
This book study will use Number Talks: Whole Number Computation, Grades K-5
- A five- to fifteen-minute classroom conversation around purposefully crafted computation problems that are solved mentally.
- The best part of a teacher’s day.
This dynamic multimedia resource was created in response to the requests of teachers—those who want to implement number talks but are unsure of how to begin and those with experience who want more guidance in crafting purposeful problems. It supports teachers in understanding:
- what a classroom talk is;
- how to follow students' thinking and pose the right questions to build understanding;
- how to prepare for and design purposeful number talks; and
- how to develop grade-level-specific strategies for the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Making the Most of Small Group- Debbie Diller Book Study
Making the Most of Small Groups grapples with difficult questions regarding small-group instruction in elementary classrooms such as:
1. How do I find the time?
2. How can I be more organized?
3. How do I form groups?
4. How can I differentiate to meet the needs of all of my students?
Structured around the five essential reading elements—comprehension, fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary—the book provides practical tips, sample lessons, lesson plans and templates, suggestions for related literacy work stations, and connections to whole-group instruction. In addition to ideas to use immediately in the classroom, Debbie provides an overview of relevant research and reflection questions for professional conversations.
