Principal’s Message
So far this winter, we have been fortunate in not having school cancellations due to weather. This means that the calendar ahead remains in tact. It is always nice to settle into a consistent work schedule with little interruption.
We continue to move forward with district initiatives of going paperless, implementing the new Fundations program and 1:1 Chromebooks. With that being said, teachers in grades 1-3 are preparing for March VIP days for parents or a significant adult. During your visit, we would like to share with you what these initiatives look like in the classroom. We encourage your attendance. Also in the works is a Parent Involvement evening that same month or early April. We recognize that Preschool and Kindergarten parents have these opportunities throughout the school year and would like to provide our 1-3 parents with similar opportunities. Your interest and involvement in your child’s education makes a difference.
The second marking period has come to an end as of January 29th and you now have access to finalized grades for this period. Evening conferences are scheduled for February 5th and February 6th from 6-8 PM and afternoon conferences are scheduled for February 7th. Students from Preschool through Third Grade will have early dismissal on each of these days. Once again our Lost and Found has grown, so during conferences there will be a table set up for you to browse in case your child has left something behind. Please reach out while you are in the building if you have questions about or difficulty accessing your student(s)’ grades in Powerschool. Presidents’ Day is February 18th, so school will be closed. Within the month, there are several activities planned and as always, please refer to the school web site for upcoming events. You also may have noticed our new school sign. Because of this technology, we now have the capacity to send out frequent messages and reminders, especially those that are a little lengthier. This is yet another means of passing along information. Updates will be posted on the sign in advance. We do our best to provide you with the most current information.
Our PTO is holding their second Book Fair February 11 through 15.
Rounding out the month of February is the celebration of Theodore Geisel aka Dr. Seuss. There will be a theme for each day of Read Across America week, finishing with guest readers on Friday, March 1st. The calendar for that week will be posted on the school website in advance.
I look forward to seeing all of you during conferences.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Karen Kessler

"BEE KIND"
Please join us the week of February 17-22 in celebrating National Random Acts of Kindness Week. Students can send in a nice note for his/her teacher, help a friend, hold a door or give a compliment. On February 20th students are encouraged to wear black and yellow, dress as a bee or wear a shirt about kindness to encourage everyone to, "BEE KIND!"
Random Acts of Kindness Week
Random Acts of Kindness
Did you know that the only thing that doubles when you share it is kindness? In the 2018 - 2019 school year, Cold Springs School took a school wide initiative to promote kindness. “It’s cool to be kind” can be seen throughout the school from posters to tags on the backpacks of students. Peer Buddies have worked cooperatively to do such activities as create posters with the “It’s Cool to be Kind” sayings and also created placemats that will be given out at Cathedral Kitchen in Camden, NJ. These have been some of the tangible activities, but what about the intangible?
Every week you hear a story of a random act of kindness, from holding the door for someone, paying for a coffee for someone to even something as simple as smiling at a stranger. Studies have shown that when you do an act of kindness it reduces stress, anxiety, and depression, all while leading to a calmer, healthier, and happier you! We will be promoting random acts of kindness all year here at Cold Springs School, but with special emphasis during the week of February 18 through February 22 which is Random Acts of Kindness Week. So smile! Hold the door! Write a simple thank you note to someone that you are thankful for! Remember. . . it is always COOL TO BE KIND!
