BARBER BULLETIN
Week of January 30-February 3
Are DAILY WORD PROBLEMS part of your daily math instruction?
Why are daily word problems in Richland 2’s Balanced Math Model?
The Balanced Math Model serves as a structure for math instruction in our district. As seen on the chart, the class time should be divided to include Fluency Practice, a Daily Spiral Review (Math 4 Today),a Daily Word Problem, Concept Development , when teachers are teaching, and a debrief/closure to the lesson to assess the learning.
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd each have different types of addition and subtraction problems they are expected to be able to solve. These word problem structures will continue to be used throughout fifth grade. It is critical that teachers give ample time for these understandings to develop. Daily practice is a must.
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade have different types of multiplication and division problems they are expected to be able to solve. These word problem structures are used throughout these grades. It is CRITICAL that teachers give ample time for these understandings to develop. DAILY practice is a must.

Everyone loves Care Packages!
We have a deployed parent and our Stars and Stripes group of military connected students is putting together a care package to mail to the parent! Please consider contributing! Here's a link with some wonderful ideas! http://www.military.com/deployment/what-to-send-someone-who-is-deployed.html
Please provide items to Julie Whitney by Wednesday!
Also, I'd like to prepare a care package to mail to Mr. Inabinet. Gift cards, journals, magazines, snacks, books, etc are all wonderful ideas! I'm sure he would love some sweet GET WELL cards from students at Pontiac, too. Please provide these items to D.Legrand by Friday of this week!
