Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
Happy May Day!
I am pretty sure that April 2020 will go down in history as one of the most difficult times in our nation's history. We continue to wish all of your families health and safe well-wishes as we continue to manage our lives through COVID-19.
Thank you so much for the great turn out at our material pick up this past week! Many of the learning items are necessary to have for the remainder of this school year, so it's not too late for pickup. IF you were unable to come this week we ask that you call or email to set up a pick up time for you to come next week so we can ensure that your child has their needed learning materials.
Call: Our office at 321-1550 and leave a message with name and contact information
OR
Email: Principal McCaw at amccaw@vicksburgschools.org
**IF you would like us to arrange to mail your child's items please call the office and make that request.
It's hard to believe but the remainder of the school year includes just 6 weeks; however, I am sure some of you may be thinking JUST 6 WEEKS?!!! We continue to express our gratitude to all of you for trying to teach your children while managing so many things at the same time.
In this newsletter, you will see the link below to our updated principal message with the new weekly learning plans for next week. Next week marks the first week of new learning. The district teachers have worked very hard at prioritizing the most essential learning content for our students to learn to wrap up their current school year. Anytime your child is able to spend on their lessons will definitely help them prepare for the next school year, thank you in advance!
Teachers will be sharing out the daily learning plans through Google Classroom before 7:00 am each week. We understand your days may not match up to the way the plans are organized so we encourage you to make the assignments work for your family however best fits your needs.
Below, you will find live links to:

2) School Material Pickup Plan
Please take the time to review the information below that includes details about these two items.
We are here for you so please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns at amccaw@vicksburgschools.org
Stay Safe Sunset Lake!

Message from our Food Service
Meal Support
WOW-- Vicksburg Community Schools has surpassed the 100,000 meals distributed since our school shutdown has begun. That is astounding and we are so proud of the work all of our VCS staff members have been putting into our food distribution plan.
Please remember that these meals are for EVERYONE.
I have linked the Vicksburg Schools Meals Survey if you would like to add your student(s) to the list.
Need comes in all shapes and sizes, not just financial. If this food keeps our families from making extra trips to the store, then it is less exposure for them or family members. If it makes families feel a sense of normalcy when they or their kids can wave at a familiar face at the pickup line. These are just a couple of examples of the needs that we are meeting, some of which are silent.
Remember we are handing out meals every Wednesday through June 10th at our normal distribution times.
If you have questions about our foodservice please email: foodsupport@vicksburgschools.org

VCS Food Department Message
Dear Vicksburg Families,
The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (P-EBT) provides temporary funding to address emergency food needs and avert financial hardship for families affected by the pandemic. Students who qualify for free or reduced price meals for the current school year qualify for the P-EBT. If you were already receiving free or reduced meals during the school year, YOU DON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING FURTHER. If you already have an EBT card, those funds will automatically be added. DHHS will mail the card to others that qualify, between now and Mid-May. The EBT card will come with directions and a phone number to call to activate the card and create a PIN.
If your income has changed due to the pandemic, please complete a Free/Reduced meals application at lunchapp.com. If you submit an application by April 27th and qualify for benefits, your funding will be retroactive to the start of the pandemic. Please submit an application as soon as possible (no later than Monday, April 27th) to ensure you receive these extra benefits!
These benefits are in addition to the free school meals the district is currently offering each Wednesday. The P-EBT funds do not expire for 1 year, so please continue to get the weekly meals and use these funds for other meals or use at a later date.
We encourage all families to take advantage of the weekly meals. They are for everyone, regardless of income, everyone qualifies!
As always, please email foodsupport@vicksburgschools.org if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Sarah Dyer, Food Service Director
