Bear Pride: Respect, Responsibility, Be Safe, Do Your Best
January 28, 2022
I Love to Read Month
February is I Love to Read Month, and the teachers have planned some fun activities for students to support the love of reading throughout the month. Please take time to talk to your child about your favorite books to read when you were their age; children benefit from seeing their parents read too.
Book Drive
Paraprofessional/Educational Assistants Appreciation Week
Jan.24-28th was Paraprofessional Appreciation Week. We have a great group of EA's, and we would not want to be without them! They are extremely valuable and greatly appreciated!!
Black History Month
February is also Black History Month. We will introduce students to a variety of black people that have made and/or are making significant contributions to our country.
Kindness Retreat
Manners and Language
I just need to point out how heart warming it is when our kiddos use good manners at school; it is music to my ears. It is easy to know when children have been taught to say Please and Thank You without having to be reminded. It is also obvious when children have not been raised with profanity in their home. Know that children will copy many things, and it is always best when we hear the kind words come out of their mouths. Thank you!
Three Rivers Community Action Announces New Opportunity for Family Childcare Entrepreneurs
Three Rivers Community Action is excited to announce a NEW family childcare owner initiative at the Northfield Community Resource Center (NCRC), located at 1651 Jefferson Parkway. Together with our partners, including Healthy Community Initiative, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, and Families First of Minnesota, we are continuing our mission to support childcare needs in the Northfield community.
Using our new partnership model, we are proud to provide classroom space and business support to individuals who are looking to start a new career or relocate their current family childcare business.
Benefits to the selected applicant include:
● Quality classroom space at an affordable rent
● Starter kit of classroom environment materials and supplies
● Premier business consulting services
To meet the growing demand for quality childcare, the selected applicant will provide childcare for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. In our commitment to improve the quality of life for every individual, the selected applicant will be encouraged to enroll children who participate in the Child Care Assistance Program. Bilingual individuals of color and those who will provide childcare during non-traditional hours will be prioritized in the selection process.
"We are honored to play a role in supporting southern Minnesota communities as they develop childcare solutions," said Rae Jean Hansen, vice president of early childhood at SMIF. "This innovative approach to supporting childcare business owners in Northfield will be a major asset for families in the community."
Applications received on or before February 28, 2022, will be given priority.
