Ben Gardner, Associate Professor of Art and Design, benjamin.gardner@drake.edu
I'm happy to talk with students and parents about career possibilities in the visual arts: particularly good schools to attend for students to be on the right track for a career in their particular area of interest: this includes studio art (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and other art forms), graphic design, art history, museum studies, art therapy, and other professions. I'm pretty knowledgeable about a lot of schools in Iowa and the Midwest, so I'm happy to discuss other programs as well. We often find that high school students and their parents are not always aware of all of the possibilities within visual art, so I'm happy to discuss these with anyone.

Your computer is more than a tool- it’s a partner in design! The Engineering & Design Technology Program prepares students for a wide variety of careers in technical visualization. We teach and use six (6!) different computer-aided design & graphics (CAD) packages to create blueprints, 3d models, animations and simulations. We offer 3d printing, small robotics, machining & fabrication, and graphics programming. And if that wasn’t enough, we are also the only community college in Iowa offering courses in computational and algorithmic design – the cool stuff that allows your computer to get involved in designing. Not sure what we mean? Come check us out!
