Term 2, Week 9, Tuesday 21st September 2021

The staff had a most productive day yesterday working on end-of-year reporting processes. We certainly hope you and your children enjoyed the day’s break from distance learning. As you will have no doubt heard, the Minister of Education, The Honourable Chris Hipkins, announced that there is no change to school holidays. Distance learning will be proceeding for the majority of the school until Friday 1st October. Let us hope that we are in Level 2 for at least some of the break so that we can get out and about more to support the hospitality and tourism industries.

Level 3 - what changes?

Under level 3 there will be a small number of students having their learning supervised at school. As such, Catherine Palmer and I will be in each day with a very small number of staff. Two of our teachers will be supervising learning each morning so there will be other staff helping run their distance learning programmes, however we anticipate minimal disruption.

Te wiki o te reo Māori

We hope that you have enjoyed learning some words or phrases in te reo last week - the continuing challenge is to embed these words into your family vocabulary. Students have been sending in some fantastic photos and videos to earn house and class points. Congratulations to Snell who earned the most, and to Rooms 8 and 16.

Art in the Hood

Artists across the school have been working to prepare their entries for the Art in the Hood competition. Our winning entries from last year are still on display in the nearby bus stop on Gillies Ave. Here are some examples from our intermediate students.

Kohia Kids Zone

The school holidays are approaching and we are happy to announce that we will be providing a Holiday Programme if we are under Level 2. We are seeking an update from the Ministry of Education about a bubble-based programme for Level 3 (currently set for the first two days, but may be extended).

Bookings are now open for the holiday programme from Wednesday 6th October IF we do move to Level 2.

We have awesome activities planned with our themes Fantasy & Fairytales for week 1 and Outerspace for week 2. All of our activities will be run with level 2 precautions in mind. Our Trip Days are bookable, however please bear with us as we negotiate the safest approach to them as we get closer to the day. Your flexibility is appreciated.

As always, invoicing will happen in arrears following each week, if activities are cancelled due to level 3 or 4 you will not be charged. In the case that a trip day must be swapped for an in-house day due to level 2 restrictions, you will be charged non-trip day prices.

We understand that planning at this time can be difficult so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out at afterschoolcare@kts.school.nz. I will happily answer any questions you may have.

As usual, we are offering a 15% discount for our early birds! Simply make your booking before the end of day Friday 1st October (last day of T3) and you will receive 15% off your booking!

Out-of-zone enrolments

Kohia Terrace School will be holding a Ballot on Wednesday 20th October 2021 for out-of-zone enrolments. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.

The closing date for out-of-zone applications will be Wednesday 29th September 2021.

Parents of students who live within the home zone should also enrol by this date to assist the school to plan appropriately for next year. Please refer to our school website for further information.
