Growing Strong Writers
We know reading and writing go hand in hand. Strong writers are readers. And just as reading skills must be nurtured for student success, so, too, writing skills. Creating competent writers, who can generate ideas, capture the details of the human experience, argue with evidence, and write with a sense of agency is a key component in building and fortifying ELA skills. The task of growing writers is cumulative; as in honing any skill, the most dramatic and far-reaching effects result from vertically aligned practices and methods developed through the grades. We know writers develop through explicit instruction, consistent practice, and timely feedback from teachers. Come join us as we explore the benefits, satisfaction—and joy—of a writing workshop approach that builds and supports proficient writers throughout the grades!
